Massive Jim’ll Fix It Badge given to a Welsh town faces being destroyed

A huge Jim’ll Fix It badge awarded to a Welsh town is set to be destroyed.

The badge was presented to the town of Holyhead by paedophile broadcaster Jimmy Savile in 1990 to provide some cheer after a flu bug ruined the Christmas season in 1990.

Resident Jeff Evans, now a councillor, contacted the show and Savile – then a huge star – dispatched Hi Di Hi! actress Ruth Madoc and boxer Frank Bruno to the town an recreated Christmas for the day, with thousands of people turning out to take part in what culminated in the laptop-sized badge being awarded.

But since Savile was exposed as one of Britain’s most prolific sex offenders following his death the badge has spent a long time in storage, the Daily Post reported , with ongoing discussions about what to do with the gift

Savile died in October 2011 aged 84Savile died in October 2011 aged 84

Mayor Ann Kennedy, who at the time of filming was the general manager of the Holyhead Opportinities Trust, said it was likely the badge will be destroyed due to its “negative connotations” with the shamed celebrity.

She said: “The badge is being kept in storage and there’s been some thought as to what to do with it. It’s a difficult decision in many ways as it was such a lovely day and it’s not often that you can showcase your town to many millions of viewers. We still have the memories of course but when you consider the severity of Jimmy Savile’s crimes it’s not something we want to be associated with Holyhead. It seems the right thing to do.”

After the parade there was a dinner for 500 people on Newry Beach.

“It might have all started as a bit of a joke – ‘create Christmas for all the people who were ill last year’ – but it finished up as a massive fun weekend, with hundreds of people joining in and thoroughly enjoying the true spirit of the festivities.”

Jimmy Savile’s penthouse flat in Leeds demolished

19th Oct

The luxury £300,000 penthouse flat owned by evil Jimmy Savile in which he abused at least one of his victims is set to be demolished.

Workmen were today preparing to remove the rooftop flat from a six-storey building at Rounday Park, Leeds, where the notorious paedophile died in 2011.

Some gutting of the property – which was bought by Savile at the height of his fame in the 1970s – was carried out in 2014.

But it was not until April this year that a firm called Ennerdale Apartments won planning permission for the redevelopment of the rooftop flat at the six-storey Lakeview Court building.

The flat is perhaps best known for hosting the weekly meetings of Leeds-born Savile’s inner circle, dubbed The Friday Morning Club.

Once regarded as a luxury residence with some of the finest views in Leeds, its furnishings had grown tatty and outdated by the time of the star’s death.

It is thought that at least one of his victims was abused there in his 30 years of residence.

A document submitted as part of the successful planning application to Leeds City Council said the work would see the demolition of the penthouse and “construction of a new [lightweight] steel framed structure”.

Permission was also granted by the council for changes to other sections of Lakeview Court, including the installation of new external insulation and the demolition of six single storey garages.

A council report on the application said that, although “the rooftop flat will be enlarged as a result of this proposal”, there would be minimal impact on “visual amenity in general”.

Savile’s flat was sold to a company called CXI 92 Ltd, owned by the couple who lived in the suite next door, for £250,000 in February 2013.

Land Registry documents show the property changed hands again in early 2014, this time for £300,000.

Savile was exposed as a paedophile in 2012 and the following year a joint Scotland Yard and NSPCC report branded him one of the UK’s most prolific known sexual predators

Jimmy Savile gropes teenager in newly emerged Louis Theroux footage

New footage has emerged that appears to show Jimmy Savile sexually assaulting a teenage girl

The video of Savile rubbing himself against the young girl and touching her bottom was shot in a restaurant in Leeds in 2001, where the incident happened in the presence of the girl’s mother, who Savile knew personally, and documentary filmmaker Louis Theroux.

It will be screened for the first time on Sunday night as part of a new BBC documentary, Louis Theroux: Savile. Mr Theroux first interviewed Savile in 2000 for his BAFTA award-winning series When Louis Met…{see below}

The acclaimed filmmaker said he recently found the clip of Savile, who is wearing a vest top, with his grey hair in a ponytail, while reviewing his video archive for footage to use in his new documentary.

Theroux challenged Savile on a number of subjects in his original documentary, including asking the television personality about rumours of paedophilia in one particularly tense interview.

But Theroux admitted that by the time the documentary was completed “a part of me had come to see him as something of a friend”.

The filmmaker continued to meet Savile and to record further footage. The incident in the restaurant is believed to have been filmed the summer after the original programme aired.

Theroux and Savile are seen laughing and joking as they leave the Flying Pizza restaurant after the sexual assault.

In his new documentary, Theroux said he felt guilty for not doing more to bring the sex offender to justice while he was still alive.

“At the time, I’d done my best to be tough with him,” he said “I knew he was weird and, with all his mannerisms, rather irritating – I had no interest in making a soft piece about Jimmy the Charity Fundraiser. The dark rumours – of sexual deviance, of being unemotional, of having a morbid interest in corpses – were one of the reasons I’d taken him on as a subject. I wanted to get the goods on Savile. The trouble was, I had no clear sense of what those goods were.”

In 2001, Theroux reported Savile to BBC bosses over allegations he had slept with a 15-year-old girl, but a senior producer decided not to pass the information on to police.

After Savile’s death in 2011, aged 84, it emerged the presenter and long-time charity campaigner had sexually abused hundreds of women and children over six decades.

He molesting victims as young as five at NHS hospitals and assaulted as many as 72 people while working at the BBC.

When Theroux challenged Savile about rumours of paedophilia over a decade ago,

Savile said: “We live in a very funny world. And it’s easier for me, as a single man, to say ‘I don’t like children’, because that puts a lot of salacious tabloid people off the hunt.”

Theroux asked: “Is that basically so the tabloids don’t pursue this whole is he or isn’t he a paedophile line?”

“Oh, aye,” Savile said. “How do they know whether I am not? How does anybody know whether I am? Nobody knows whether I am or not. I know I’m not… That’s my policy and it’s worked a dream.”

In the new documentary Theroux explained: “I wanted to make sense of my own failure to see him for what he was, to see what clues there were in hindsight.”

Theroux said he felt particularly bad about two women who contacted him soon after the original documentary was aired to tell him about their earlier relationships with Savile. One of them said she had been 15 at the time.

More than a decade later, the two women were among the hundreds who came forward to describe the abuse they had suffered.

“It was upsetting to realise I’d actually met two of the victims while Jimmy Savile was still alive,” Theroux said. “I wondered if I’d handled the encounter differently they might have said more – or if they simply hadn’t been ready.”

One woman, Sam Brown, who was repeatedly raped by Savile while attending church aged around 11, told Theroux: “He mugged you off by giving you what he wanted to give you”

In response, the filmmaker confessed: “I feel a bit ashamed now – knowing what we know. I knew he had a secret, I just didn’t know what it was. I accept that I was one of many people who failed to see what he was about.”

Radio 1 DJ #ChrisDenning admits 21 counts of child sex abuse #CSA #VIPaedo

 22.08.16

Former BBC DJ Chris Denning has pleaded guilty to 21 child sex offences committed between 1969 and 1986.

The 75-year-old, from London, admitted the abuse of 11 boys as young as eight. He denied three other offences.

Denning, who was arrested in a police inquiry into the Walton Hop Disco for teenagers in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, will be sentenced on 6 October.

He was part of the original line-up that launched Radio 1 in 1967, but left two years later.

The prosecution said it did not intend to proceed with a trial on the three charges to which Denning had pleaded not guilty.

He is currently serving a 13-year jail term for sexual assaults against 24 victims aged nine to 16 from the 1960s to 1980s.

He will be sentenced at Southwark Crown Court by the same judge who jailed him for those offences in 2014.

What charges did he face?

The latest offences Denning admitted included indecent assaults on men and boys and inciting boys aged under 16 and 14 to commit acts of gross indecency.

The offences he denied were three counts of indecent assault.

Surrey Police said the case against the former DJ formed was part of its Operation Ravine investigation into non-recent sexual offences linked to the Walton Hop Disco which ran between 1958 and 2001.

Det Ch Ins Jo Hayes said: “Denning, who was looked up to and sometimes idolised by many young people, has used his status to prey on innocent children which he has now admitted to.”

Four of Denning’s victims were in court to see him plead guilty.

Det Ch Insp Hayes said: “The four boys who Denning abused had moved on with their lives and were now adult men with families and careers. Often, they had not spoken to those closest to them about their ordeal as a child and only recently, as part of this investigation, have been able to do so…

“We can never go back and take away the abuse these four men suffered as boys but I hope, in some way, today’s guilty plea brings some closure for them.”

How famous was Chris Denning?

A group shot of Radio 1's first DJs in 1967

Chris Denning, circled in this picture, was among Radio 1 DJs pictured when the station launched in 1967

Chris Denning rose to prominence in the 1960s on BBC television and radio.

He was one of the first announcers heard on BBC Two when the channel began broadcasting in 1964 and went on to be one of the original Radio 1 DJs.

Denning helped launch the careers of the Bay City Rollers and Gary Glitter, and ran his own music and video production business.

He remained a well-known DJ and presenter into the early 1970s.

The allegations that led to his conviction in 2014 arose after the sex abuse perpetrated by late Radio 1 DJ Jimmy Savile came to light.

Denning’s arrest was under the strand of the investigation into offences not connected to Savile, but the court heard he did use his fame to “entice” boys.

This included taking some victims to recordings of Top of the Pops, and in other instances, introducing them to celebrities including Savile.

Denning had a number of previous convictions for abusing young boys.

In 1974, he was convicted of gross indecency and indecent assault but was not imprisoned.

He was then jailed for 18 months in 1985 for gross indecency, and in 1988 he received a three-year sentence, this time for indecent assault and possession of indecent images.

In 1996, he was handed a 10-week sentence for publishing indecent articles.

He was arrested in the Czech Republic in 1997 and eventually jailed in 2000 by a Prague court for four and a half years for having sexual contact with underage teenage boysA group of former Radio 1 DJs pictured near BBC Broadcasting House in 1997

The UK tried and failed to have Denning extradited from the Czech Republic, but in 2005 he was arrested at Heathrow Airport, having arrived from Austria.

In January 2006, a British court jailed him for four years after he admitted five charges of indecent assault on boys under 16 during the 1970s and 80s.

He was then extradited to Slovakia, where he was given a five-year sentence in 2008 for producing indecent images of children.

EastEnders rocked by sexual harassment allegations as crew member axed

11.50pm 09/07/16

EastEnders has axed one of its production team after an allegation of inappropriate behaviour on set .

The freelance worker was dropped after the alleged sexual harassment incident prompted complaints from a colleague.

But the respected and experienced crew member denied any wrongdoing – and said EastEnders had not told him of any problems with his behaviour.

The man has previously been engaged on a wide range of Britain’s top-name soaps, working on the production of countless scenes.

A show source revealed the allegation had been made by another crew member on the set, leading to him being dropped by show bosses. The source said: “The details have all been kept very quiet.

“But it’s known among cast and crew that a complaint was made.

“The understanding is that bosses took action after they were made aware of the allegation by another crew member.

“He was employed on a freelance basis rather than as staff.

“It’s very unlikely he’ll be back. The BBC are extremely cautious around any issues like this – and they never ignore complaints when they arise.”

Responding to the allegations, the man fiercely denied any wrongdoing – and insisted he was not aware he had been accused of behaving inappropriately.

He said: “I’m shocked. I can’t believe someone would say that sort of thing about me. I don’t understand it.

“People have said things in the past, but that’s the way the industry seems to have gone.

“I haven’t worked there for a few months but nobody has told me there has been any problem.”

The man has become a well- known figure in the soap world over his career, and posts photos of stars on his social media accounts.

EastEnders officials have refused to comment on the specific allegations – but insisted they take any claims of impropriety seriously.

A spokesman said: “We never comment on individual staff matters.

“But any allegations of inappropriate behaviour would always be taken extremely seriously and would be dealt with swiftly and appropriately.”  Source TheMirror

Little Slaves, Sordid boasts & The Dark Truth About My ‘Friend’ Jimmy Savile

Little slaves’, sordid boasts and the dark truth about my ‘friend’ Jimmy Savile, by the biographer who tried to unmask him

Over eight years, writer Dan Davies was given unrivalled access to Jimmy Savile and his coterie, but no one dared to unmask the world he found… until now.

I first met Jimmy Savile at his penthouse flat in Leeds in 2004.

After buzzing on the intercom, I was told to wait in the small foyer of Lake View Court, a modern block overlooking Roundhay Park. When the wooden doors of the lift slid open, releasing a cloud of pungent cigar smoke, Jimmy emerged flanked by two large, unsmiling men.

‘Frisk him,’ he barked and I was pinned to the wall and searched for 20 rather uncomfortable seconds.

As I entered his flat he beckoned me through to his kitchen, which was decorated with tiles of pink and brown – or ‘the colour of sex’ as he put it – before sitting down in his reclining chair to begin regaling me with tales of his poverty-stricken childhood, his friendship with the Royal Family and his curious opinions on the opposite sex.

‘Intriguing subject’: Jimmy Savile relaxing at his flat in Leeds, where writer Dan Davies first met him in 2004
He boasted how many girls would be available to him on a typical night in one of his dancehalls and claimed to have ‘loved them all’. He also said that it ‘never occurred to me to take a liberty with them’. It struck me then that this was an odd caveat.

I asked him about the rumours that had long dogged him, namely that he was into young girls.

‘You’ve got to bear in mind that we live in a funnier world than we did ten years ago, he said. That is why in this building I don’t have the internet and I don’t have email, because someone would break in here thinking that I would be up late at night looking at all that porno business, and steal my hard drive. If I ain’t got it in the first place, they can’t get anything on me.’

I interviewed Jimmy many more times in the years before his death, at his homes in Leeds and Scarborough, over lunch at the Athenaeum Club in London and even during a short cruise on the QE2.

He was an intriguing subject and something approaching a friendship developed between us. Yet despite his generosity and entertaining company, nagging doubts persisted.

Uncle Jimmy took me to his sick parties: Nephew tells how his childhood was stolen at 13

During our time at sea I was alarmed by how often he stopped elderly couples and used the same quip each time to the husband.

‘You want to be careful about being seen with underage girls,’ he’d say, motioning to the man’s wife. ‘You can get in trouble for that.’

It was an extremely odd thing to say and I began to fear he harboured a guilty conscience. I also started to entertain the notion that his tireless charity work might be some grand bid for atonement for past sins.

Jimmy talked about ‘being put through the washing machine’ by the newspapers but coming up clean. I knew he was litigious and was in his flat in Leeds in 2008 when he instructed his lawyers over newspaper claims about his connection with the Haut de la Garenne children’s home in Jersey.

His line was always consistent: The big secret about me is there is no secret. What you see is what you get.’

What is now known is that Jersey Police investigated an allegation that he molested a girl at the home during the Seventies. When asked whether such rumours bothered him, he replied:

‘It doesn’t bother me in the slightest, not at all. I have a phrase when someone outs a story in a tabloid about underage sex – I say, “It would be a lot worse if it was true.” They say, “Are you saying it’s not true?” I say, “I’m not saying nothing but it would be a lot worse if it was true.”

Jimmy Savile, above with two girls in 1967, boasted to biographer Dan Davies about how many girls would be available to him on a typical night in one of his dancehallsJimmy Savile, above with two girls in 1967, boasted to biographer Dan Davies about how many girls would be available to him on a typical night in one of his dancehalls

When I first walked into his time- warp flat, with its garish fixtures and mementos from his long career at the forefront of popular culture, I had not seen Jimmy Savile in the flesh for 24 years.

Not since an evening in the autumn of 1980, when as a treat my mother took me to watch an episode of Jim’ll Fix It being recorded at the BBC Television Theatre in Shepherd’s Bush, West London.

I was nine and Jim’ll Fix It was one of Britain’s biggest family shows. My overriding memory of that evening was not of giddy excitement but of leaving the theatre afterwards with nagging doubts about Jimmy Savile.

The troubling experience of watching from the audience would have probably remained just that, had it not been for the discovery some years later of a dog-eared copy of his 1974 autobiography, As It Happens.

Rather than chuckling at his capers as child drummer in a wartime band, a Bevin Boy miner, cyclist, pioneering DJ and pop personality, I was disturbed by his morbid fascination with death and the frequent references to teenage girls – inevitably followed by cheerful accounts of narrow escapes from suspicious parents.

‘I started to entertain the notion that his tireless charity work might be some grand bid for atonement for past sins’  Jimmy Savile’s biographer Dan Davies

In one story from the early Sixties, during his stint as manager of the Mecca Locarno dancehall in Leeds, Jimmy recalled the police asking him to keep a lookout for an attractive young girl who was on the run from a remand home. He told the female police officer that if he found her, he would keep her for one night as his reward.

Jimmy recounted in the book that the girl came in to the Locarno that night and it was ‘agreed that I hand her over if she could stay at the dance, come home with me, and that I would promise to see her when they let her out’.

At 11.30 the next morning she was willingly presented to the female police officer, with Jimmy adding that she ‘was dissuaded from bringing charges against me by her colleagues, for it was well-known that were I to go I would probably take half the station with me’.

We now know that he wrote this at a time when he is alleged to have been grooming and abusing girls at Duncroft, an approved school for ‘intelligent, emotionally disturbed girls’ in Surrey, and also at the Top Of The Pops studios.

In another story, he boasted of picking up a girl in his E-Type Jaguar who had been sitting with her parents on the seafront at Scarborough one stormy night.

‘You would not believe the stories I might tell you about some parents,’ wrote Jimmy – before regaling readers with the news that after saving the girl from the waves, he took her to a garage where he kept his Rolls-Royce and she was ‘duly appreciative’.

As It Happens is littered with references to his ‘romantic’ encounters. He talked in elliptical terms of ‘the gleaming bodies of beach girls’ on his trip to California to meet Elvis Presley in 1960 and how he ‘felt it officially criminal that the age of consent in that admirable state is 18’.

He admitted to being chased along the seafront at Scarborough by ‘forty fine-bodied young girls’ and making an appearance at a charity event in Otley, near Leeds, on the condition he would ‘sleep in a tent up the local hillside with another tent alongside with six girls to sleep there as my bodyguards!’

The late DJ and television presenter surrounded by girls at a Radio 1 event near his home in Leeds in 2000The late DJ and television presenter surrounded by girls at a Radio 1 event near his home in Leeds in 2000

God’ll Fix It, his slim volume on religion published in 1978, contained many more unusual insights.

Jimmy opened a chapter titled How Do I Cope With Sex? with the following thought:

‘Sex at its worst is corruption, as when young people might be corrupted to provide sex.’

He went on to talk about how sex could be the source of ‘great remorse, great guilt’ and insisted his rule was never ‘make love to anyone if it causes them distress’ or if they were in ‘a state of drunkenness or don’t know what they’re doing. I mustn’t take them knowing that when they return to normal they’ll be distressed’.

In closing, he offered a final thought:

‘Whether it’s OK to God we’ll just have to wait and see.’

These books, and a persistent doubt, sparked my long quest to find out who Jimmy Savile really was, and why he had succeeded for so long in remaining hidden.

In 1992, Professor Anthony Clare also tried to get behind the mask, interviewing Jimmy for his In The Psychiatrist’s Chair series on Radio  4. They discussed his emotionally and materially deprived upbringing – as the unwanted, youngest child of seven – and why he had remained so determined not to show or share his feelings.

But Jimmy simply refused to lay his psyche bare, feinting and ducking and, when all else failed, shutting up shop entirely.

‘There is something chilling about this 20th Century “saint’’ which still intrigues me to this day,’ concluded Britain’s best-known psychiatrist at the end of a particularly prickly encounter.

Seven years later, a ‘transcript’ appeared on the internet detailing an exchange that was alleged to have taken place between Jimmy and Paul Merton during the filming of an episode of Have I Got News For You. The exchange, which has since proved to be a hoax, contained allegations about Jimmy and an underage girl he’d threatened with violence after she had said she’d go public about their relationship.

Jimmy’s lawyers quickly intervened and websites carrying the transcript were forced to remove the offending material. Or, as Jimmy told me later: ‘I’m an honorary Doctor of Law, so I have plenty of clout.’

From the real-life Pied Piper he’d been as the host of Top Of The Pops and Jim’ll Fix It, Jimmy suddenly seemed at odds with the modern world – a demise that was most famously captured by documentary-maker Louis Theroux. When Louis Met Jimmy went out on national television in September 2000 and shone a beam of light on what a strange old man Jimmy Savile really was.

Aged 73, after 40 years at the forefront of popular culture, he was seen leading a somewhat sad, lonely and peripatetic existence – a track-suited, cigar-chomping dinosaur who wanted to appear as a happy-go-lucky everyman but actually came across as wilfully evasive, controlling and occasionally menacing.

What I’d discovered, meanwhile, was that he was not merely a tracksuited clown, but multi-faceted, surprising and extremely well connected, with contacts ranging from Ronnie Kray and Peter Sutcliffe to popes, prime ministers and princes. He was also Teflon-like in his ability to avoid dirt.

Initially, I was interested in how this singularly odd individual had inveigled himself into the corridors of power – but it was the constant innuendo that trailed him that I found most compelling.

One source revealed he had spent a week with Jimmy at an exhibition for teenagers in the early Sixties. Jimmy was the DJ and compere on a stand and pop stars dropped in to do PAs.

‘It was great fun, but if I could tell the story of what happened that week he’d probably be in jail for ever,’ said the witness. So the rumours were true? ‘They’re totally true.’

In 2009, we sat in Jimmy’s front room in Scarborough discussing something entirely different when he launched into the shocking and unsolicited defence of Gary Glitter that featured in last week’s Exposure documentary on ITV.

Star was ‘caught on mattress with Stoke Mandeville girl, 14’

Savile took young female hospital patients to his dressing room at BBC Television Centre after inviting them to watch Jim’ll Fix It being filmed.

The girls came from Stoke Mandeville, the hospital in Buckinghamshire with which he was most closely associated.

A magazine journalist yesterday recalled an occasion when a girl, aged about 14, who was bald after receiving treatment for cancer, lay on a mattress next to Savile in the dressing room as he gave an interview in the late Eighties.

It was in this room that Gary Glitter is claimed to have raped a 13-year-old girl in front of Savile.

After the interview Savile followed the journalist along a corridor, grabbed him by the arm and threatened: ‘Don’t you dare mention that girl in your article or you’ll be bloody finished. Do you understand?

Savile raised millions of pounds for Stoke Mandeville but it has been claimed that he used his work for charity as a cover for his predatory sexual behaviour.

A former student nurse said: ‘I heard the stories that he took patients to see Jim’ll Fix It at the BBC and that they went to his dressing room. It was one thing him being at the hospital with the kids, but quite another that he was alone with them.’

Stoke Mandeville said it was ‘shocked’ to hear of these allegations and would co-operate with any police investigation.

Jimmy argued the images of child pornography found on the disgraced singer’s computer were ‘for his own gratification and whether that’s right or wrong is, of course, up to him as a person.’

I was taken aback and suggested that Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, had gone much further than downloading images – as evidenced by his 2007 conviction for obscene acts with minors in Vietnam.

Jimmy’s answer: ‘Are you telling me that some evil person didn’t stick little birds into him?’

Without missing a beat, he explained how, many years before, two policemen had once come into his dancehall.

‘They said, “Jim, we’ve had reports of you going in and out of public toilets in Leeds.’’ I said, ‘Is that right? How long have you been checking toilets? That must be a terrific job. Do you have a bath when you get home because you stink of p*** and s****?” When they realised they weren’t getting anywhere they got up and left.’

I was struck at the time by the hard edge in his voice and the language he used.

But for all my growing suspicions, questioning and research, I could not find anything or anyone to conclusively nail the rumours. Access to those who were close to Jimmy was limited by his desire to control and his dogged determination to be the curator of his own myth.

There was a part of me, too, that hoped he was right, and there was no sinister secret lurking behind the carefully cultivated facade.

It was only after his death in October last year that the shackles on the truth began to fall away. I attended his three-day funeral and it became apparent, talking to those who knew him, that he kept his life strictly compartmentalised.

By remaining constantly on the move – bouncing between his homes in Leeds, Scarborough, Scotland and London, and rooms he kept at Stoke Mandeville and Broadmoor – his pockets of friends, or ‘teams’ as he called them, were kept mutually exclusive. It was a lifestyle that made him remarkably difficult to trace.

In offering their voices to the chorus of tributes, his former Radio  1 and Top Of The Pops colleagues revealed only that none of them professed to know Jimmy. David Hamilton talked of a ‘very remote figure’ who didn’t mingle.

Mike Read said he was ‘quirky, eccentric’, Tony Blackburn thought that he was lonely and didn’t have many friends while Dave Lee Travis – who learned his trade as a DJ from Jimmy while working in the dancehalls of Manchester – spoke of knowing him for 50 years without ever having a meaningful chat.

‘He kept himself to himself and put a shield up,’ said Travis. To a man, they all used the phrase ‘a one-off’.

‘He was a naughty man’  Jeffrey Collins, former DJ at the Mecca Locarno

For the book I was writing, I wanted to place Jimmy in the context of the times he passed through and influenced. To do that, I set about finding people who might have known him better or drifted into his orbit at different stages of his life. I worked chronologically, starting with his early days as a miner, racing cyclist and dancehall manager.

In one of my first interviews, Alan Simpson, who as a teenager worked part-time at the Mecca in Wakefield, made a startling revelation:

‘One of the biggest laffs we had [with Jimmy] was either he was going to be a huge success or in prison for screwing 14-year-old girls. Everyone in the Mecca company knew about it. It was wink, wink, nod, nod. It was never made public. It was a different world. If he could get away with it – wink, wink, nod, nod – good luck to him.’

This was quickly corroborated by Jeffrey Collins, at the time a young DJ at the Mecca Locarno dancehall in Leeds that Jimmy managed.

He was a naughty man, a naughty man,’ said Collins. ‘He’d go with teenagers .  .  . I don’t know how he got away with it but he got away with it. Maybe it was because he was Jimmy Savile.’

When I asked if he found these underage girls in his dancehall, Collins confirmed this was the case: “ ‘Go up to my office, I’ll be up there later.” That sort of thing.’

Tony Calder was 18 when he first met Jimmy at Decca Records in 1961. Calder, who would go on to co-manage The Rolling Stones, had just stormed out of a meeting when he bumped into the DJ – who was contracted to play the company’s records on Radio Luxembourg.

‘Jimmy said, “Come with me to Leeds for the weekend. I’ll make sure you get laid,” ’ said Calder.

Calder did go, and said for the next 18 months Jimmy became his ‘mentor’, training him up as one of his DJs.

He also stated that Jimmy had girls throwing themselves at him, and that he’d normally had sex with them before he ‘passed them on’.

‘They’d do what they were told,’ Calder recalled. ‘They were followers. They were his little slaves.’

He confirmed that for Jimmy,

‘the rule was: the younger the better’, although he was ‘terrified of getting nicked with underage girls’.

Sir Jimmy Savile in Newcastle in 2006 The late presenter on his programme Jim'll Fix It
Sir Jimmy  in Newcastle in 2006                       On his programme Jim’ll Fix It
Jimmy Savile’s biographer Dan Davies describes him as an ‘intriguing subject’, but says ‘nagging doubts’ about the presenter persisted

By the early Sixties, Jimmy might have been forgiven for feeling untouchable. With his hit Radio Luxembourg shows, a weekly pop music column for a Sunday newspaper, a role with Mecca that gave him control over the music policy at Britain’s biggest chain of dancehalls and a job hosting Top Of The Pops, he was arguably the most influential man in a British music scene that was conquering the world.

Jimmy talked to me on occasion about the close relations he maintained with the police, while Calder recalled being at the table as one senior officer was wined and dined.

He remembered Jimmy being warned about his behaviour: ‘[The police officer said] “You’ve got to cut it out,” whatever it was. [Jimmy] was taken aback.’ Once one police chief retired or moved on, Calder said Jimmy would move on to wooing the next: ‘He wasn’t stupid. Whatever he was doing, he was covering his back.’

As his flatmate, support DJ, chauffeur and sidekick, Ray Teret was better placed than most to witness what his boss was doing. Teret styled himself on Jimmy and they shared a half- derelict apartment in Salford in the early Sixties.

‘He was a pop star,’ Teret said. ‘When you’re in that business they’re always there in front of you. There were so many [girls] around. The Sixties were the sex years. All the girls wanted to try sex and all the boys wanted to be into sex. Everyone was at it everywhere like rabbits. Girls chatted to us. We were harmless because we weren’t chasing anybody. We were great at consoling girls when they’d fallen out with other boys. We liked to console them.’

I asked Teret what sort of girls Jimmy liked, and he paused before answering

‘I think Jim, like me, preferred girly girls rather than smart girls .  .  . girls who are prepared to do a cartwheel and jump and dance and have a giggle and a laugh. Not the ones that go to work and be dead straight and sensible. He liked fun girls, show girls.’

I put it to him that it must have been an amazing experience for a young man to hang out with someone who was rich, famous, charismatic and surrounded by girls.

‘They always wanted Jimmy’s autograph,’ said Teret, ‘and while they’re all queuing up I get chatting to them, “Who are you? What’s your name? What are you doing later? We’re staying in the caravan, do you want to come and see us at six o’clock? Bring a girlfriend.” It was that easy.’

As Teret explained on a radio show recorded soon after Jimmy’s death

‘I actually spent so much time with Jim in the early days that he told me how to live, how to think, how to be.’

Jimmy Savile presenting Top Of The Pops in 1976

Jimmy Savile presenting Top Of The Pops in 1976

He recalled that Jimmy referred to him as ‘My son’, to which he dutifully responded by calling him ‘Father’. Jimmy’s protege went on to become a DJ for Radio Caroline, at which point they parted company.

In March 1999, Ray Teret, then 57, was jailed for six months for seducing and bedding a 15-year- old schoolgirl.

I also discovered that in 1980 Jimmy’s older brother John Henry was fired from his job at a London psychiatric hospital for sexually assaulting a female patient. He was alleged to have lifted the patient’s smock and groped at her breasts in his office.

While trawling the newspaper archives, a recurring theme began to emerge. Whether rescuing girls on the seafront in his aforementioned E-Type, offering lifts home in his Rolls-Royce or inviting female guests back to his caravans and motorhomes, Jimmy’s impressive array of vehicles was as much a part of his image as the outlandish hair, clothes and jewellery.

In a conversation with one of Jimmy’s former assistants, he admitted the only dubious thing he ever heard him say was that he really shouldn’t give girls a lift in his car. Jimmy hadn’t heeded his own advice by July 1977 when 16-year-old Julie Ball reported she had gone for a spin with the then 51-year-old star in his golden Rolls-Royce.

They had met at a health farm where she worked as a trainee beautician and Jimmy had driven her home to Letchworth in Hertfordshire, where ‘he signed autographs for hordes of children and sat talking with the family until the early hours’.

The next night he took Julie out to see a play and on the way home, they pulled into a quiet lay-by where they ‘kissed and cuddled for half an hour’. Other than the love-struck teenager’s feelings being hurt when Jimmy insisted there had been ‘no romance’, there is no evidence that anything further happened,

The same cannot be said for the allegations that have emerged 25 years on. They too involve cars, and lay-bys and more. Claims that Jimmy had sexually abused under-age girls at Duncroft School in the late Sixties and early Seventies surfaced earlier this year after a Newsnight report – in which a number of victims were spoken to – was controversially axed by the BBC.

Contact with the former Duncroft girls at the centre of the claims proved difficult because of the anger and betrayal they felt over the BBC’s decision. Many felt there had been a cover-up and were fearful of going on the record again, although one, Karin Ward, did blog about Jimmy’s regular visits to the now-closed approved school in Surrey.

‘I looked forward to Jimmy Savile visiting because it meant pleasant food, rides down the lane in his sports car and extra cigarettes,’ wrote Ward, who was 14 at the time. ‘Sadly, it also meant one had to put up with being mauled and groped when he pulled into a lay-by some five miles along the road.’

She added: ‘I wasn’t the only girl that he favoured with this either. In fact, he often tried to press me to “go further’’ than simply fondling him and allowing him to grope inside my knickers and at my partly-formed breasts. He promised me all manner of good things if I would give him oral sex.’

We now know those rewards were said to have included visits to the BBC studios to watch his television shows being filmed – visits that offered opportunities for further assaults in his dressing room.

And he did go further, allegedly raping two of the Duncroft girls who were hand-picked from the headmistress’s office, as well as others unconnected with the school.

Five women appeared in former police detective and child protection specialist Mark Williams-Thomas’s investigation for ITV, although not all were from Duncroft.

He interviewed many more – among them were some previously interviewed by Newsnight. So far, more than 40 women have come forward to claim that they had been sexually assaulted by Jimmy Savile at the height of his fame. They were aged between 12 and 20 at the time.

‘The pattern is consistent with all of those women I spoke to,’ says Williams-Thomas. ‘I have no doubt there are many, many more victims. I know some of them and they are too scared to talk on the record.’

Willow Tree Programming

Abridged from “Project Monarch” : Nazi Mind Control, Ron Patton

The intrinsic imagery of the tree’s branches, leaves and root systems are very significant, as some of the dark spiritual proper ties associated with the Willow Tree Programming are:

(1)   The branches are used to whip victims in rituals for “cleansing” purposes

(2)   A willow tree can endure severe weather disturbances (i.e. storms) and is known for it’s pliability or flexibility. Victims/Survivors of the programming describe the willow’s branches wrapping around them, with no hope of escape

(3)   The deep root system of the willow tree makes the victim/survivor feel as if they are falling deeper and deeper into an abyss while in a hypnotic trance. [12]

BBC & SAVILE

Two letters to Evening Standard (London), March 19th 2013:

Savile’s sins were known at the BBC

I WORKED in BBC House Engineering in the 1980s and was told about Savile, with a warning that comments on his preference for young girls would be “dealt with” by his minders. To say it was common knowledge would be an understatement. Sean O’Farrell, N19

YESTERDAY’S arrogant comments from Sir Michael Grade explain how Savile’s sexual depravity was tolerated. The only cleverness he exhibited was not, as Grade claims, in hiding his predatory activities but in his estimation of his employers’ willingness to look away. Name and address withheld

The Jimmy Savile scandal will not be snuffed out

Former colleagues at the BBC overlooked the gossip about Jimmy Savile for their own ends

Andy Kershaw

7:00AM GMT 24 Mar 2013

When the news broke of Jimmy Savile’s death, I sat before the rolling television news channels in a state of exasperation and disbelief.

Celebrities, media heavyweights, and even representatives of the great and the good, were scrambling to gush eulogies to a man they were eager to canonise as Saint Jimmy of Stoke Mandeville or, at least, a much-loved national treasure.

Every one of these mourners knew better than to pay tribute. For every one of them, as creatures of the media or the entertainment industries, had, for years, heard the persistent rumours about the real Jimmy Savile. Even in death and for another 12 months Savile would continue to pull off a public relations swindle of spectacular audacity.

Stories of Savile’s sordid activities were not restricted to those of us within the BBC, although the sanctimonious response of many in the media, once his paedophilia was exposed, was to vilify only employees of the corporation for doing nothing at the time…

Almost as soon as I joined Radio 1 in 1985, I was warned by John Walters, my producer at the station, to steer clear of Savile. And, just as quickly, I became familiar with the stories……….

Seb Coe ‘in line to chair BBC Trust’: Olympic hero tipped to replace Chris Patten at helm

By Jack Doyle

Published: 16:02, 28 May 2014 | Updated: 00:20, 29 May 2014

Olympics supremo Sebastian Coe is in line to be the next chairman of the BBC, it emerged last night.

The former track star and London 2012 chief is the frontrunner to replace Lord Patten, who stood down three weeks ago after heart surgery.

Downing Street refused to comment on the report first made by ITV News but Whitehall sources last night confirmed Lord Coe is the leading candidate…

Coe was a Conservative MP for five years before losing his seat in the 1997 general election, returning to politics for a short time as William Hague’s chief of staff after receiving a life peerage in 2000.

A double Olympic gold medallist in the Eighties, he has also already had a working relationship with BBC director-general Tony Hall.

In 2009, Hall, then chief executive of the Royal Opera House, was asked to chair a board to direct the Cultural Olympiad.

This gave Hall a seat on the board of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games, which Coe chaired. Lord Coe would move into the job following a string of highly damaging scandals at the corporation.

The BBC was lambasted for its handling of the Jimmy Savile scandal that broke after the presenter’s death in 2011……

SAVILE & NSPCC

Jimmy Savile victims call for single inquiry By David Sillito

Media Correspondent

There are more than 30 individual investigations being carried out by organisations linked to Savile.

About 50 of the people who have reported being abused say they fear key questions will not be answered about how Savile, who died in 2011, operated.

But the NSPCC charity says creating one overarching inquiry could mean lessons are not learnt as quickly.

Television expose

Solicitor Alan Collins, who is representing 60 of Savile’s victims in compensation claims, said the majority of his clients fear an unsatisfactory resolution from the separate investigations.

He told the BBC: “It should be one inquiry, chaired by a high court judge. I fear if this does not happen, an opportunity will have been lost, not only for the victims but for the country as a whole.

“The risk (of not having one inquiry) is justice may be incomplete.”….

….Meanwhile, the NSPCC says more victims have been coming forward in recent weeks. The most recent was just before Christmas. It says it has now been contacted by 326 people in connection with Jimmy Savile.

It adds that the effect of the Savile scandal has led to an 81% increase in overall reports of sexual abuse to the NSPCC.

However, Peter Watt, from the charity, who supports a “lessons learned” document, said a single inquiry would not help victims but would merely delay answers, possibly for years.

Mr Watt said: “Imagine if there was a key lesson learnt right now in one of those inquiries but suddenly it got subsumed into an overarching inquiry that took years to report. There are children today who could benefit from that but wouldn’t.”

But he agreed the government needed to draw together all the information gathered by the many inquiries and act on the conclusions.

The government’s position is that it is waiting for all Savile-related police inquiries to come to an end before it makes a decision.

Jimmy Savile sought Margaret Thatcher Stoke Mandeville help

Jimmy Savile met Margaret Thatcher several times to get support for his Stoke Mandeville Hospital appeal, newly released government papers show.

In letters they exchanged, released by the National Archives, Savile tells Mrs Thatcher that the patients at the hospital love her – and he does too.

The government eventually gave £500,000 to the Buckinghamshire hospital.

The papers also show Savile approached Mrs Thatcher about tax relief on charitable donations.

The now-disgraced TV and radio presenter, who died last year aged 84, approached Mrs Thatcher at a Downing Street event on 6 February 1980, while he was heading the £10m Stoke Mandeville appeal.

At the Number 10 meeting – a presentation ceremony for the children’s charity the NSPCC – Savile asked the then-prime minister how he might “pursue the question of tax deduction for charitable donations”, the papers show………

Theresa May announces new paedophile inquiry into EVERY aspect of British public life: As politicians come under scrutiny, Home Secretary widens probe to Church, NHS and BBC

By Matt Chorley, Mailonline Political Editor

Published: 08:50, 7 July 2014 | Updated: 18:17, 7 July 2014

A major inquiry is to be launched into child sex abuse carried out at every level of society, Home Secretary Theresa May announced today.

A panel of experts will examine evidence that successive governments, charities, political parties, the NHS, the BBC and the Church failed to protect children from paedophiles.

However, critics warned it risked creating a ‘whitewash’ and will not address public concern about an Establishment cover-up of abuse at the heart of Westminster for decades.

A separate review by the head of the NSPCC, Peter Wanless, will examine the way the Home Office handled allegations over three decades, after it was found to have lost 114 files relating to claims of abuse…

Mr Wanless is to examine how the Home Office lost more than 100 files alleging organised abuse.

It emerged a dossier detailing allegations of abuse was passed to the then home secretary, Leon Brittan, by the Tory MP Geoffrey Dickens in 1983.

But the Home Office says it cannot find the file, along with more than 100 relevant files dating from 1979 to 1999 which have been destroyed or lost.

To add to the sense of chaos, The Independent reported that the Dickens file was also given to the Director for Public Prosecutions.

Mr Wanless said: ‘It’s important to discover everything we can about what happened to these files, not only to help those who may have been victims of abuse many years ago but also to protect those children at risk now.

‘The NSPCC is known for its independence and I will approach this review with the due diligence and dedication it warrants – which is what all children have every right to expect.’……

OPERATION YEWTREE & SAVILE

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Yewtree

Operation Yewtree is a police investigation into sexual abuse allegations, predominantly the abuse of children, against the British media personality Jimmy Savile (who died in 2011) and others. The investigation led by the Metropolitan Police Service started in October 2012. After a period of assessment it became a full criminal investigation, involving inquiries into living people as well as Savile…

Initial assessments

On 4 October 2012, the Metropolitan Police said it would take the national lead in a process of assessing the allegations.[5][6] The assessment was undertaken by the Serious Case Team of the service’s Child Abuse Investigation Command, led by Detective Superintendent David Gray working closely with the BBC. The police said, “Our priority will be to ensure a proportionate and consistent policing response putting the victims at the heart of our enquiries”, and that “it is not an investigation at this stage”.[5]

The Metropolitan Police announced on 9 October that the inquiry into the allegations would be called Operation Yewtree, and would be undertaken jointly with the NSPCC…

Giving Victims a Voice

The joint report prepared by the Metropolitan Police Service and the NSPCC, Giving Victims a Voice, was published in January 2013, and marked the end of investigations under Operation Yewtree into Savile alone. It reported that sex offences were committed by Savile on 450 people[59] (328 being children at the time),[60] across England and [61] Scotland,[59] with allegations also made in Jersey.[19]……

Peter Watt and his role in the NSPCC cover up of Operation Yewtree

Chris Spivey

On January 19, 2013 I released my article ‘The Crook Report’, which was based around a Daily Mail article reporting on the release of the Operation Yewtree Report.

The report, if you can call it that, was compiled jointly by the Metropolitan Police and the NSPCC. The following is what Peter Watt, the NSPCC’s Director of Child Protection Advice and Awareness told the Daily Mail:

‘The sheer scale of Saviles abuse over six decades simply beggars belief.

‘He is without doubt one of the most prolific sex offenders we have ever come across and every number represents a victim that will never get justice now he is dead.

‘But with this report we can at least show his victims that they have been taken seriously and their suffering has been recognised.’

I was so incensed by that statement, given the reports contents, that I prematurely broke the story of the Terrorist, Hein Grosskopf being employed by the NSPCC as senior Management in charge of a team of Grief Councillors…

As I say, I prematurely broke the story because of the Outrage I felt at Peter Watt’s statement. Knowing what I do about Savile, which Watt must also know, his statement was phoney, condescending, smarmy, outrageous and an insult to child abuse victims everywhere

However, most of all, the contents of his statement made it crystal fucking clear to me that the NSPCC are actively participating in the massive cover up operation that is Operation Yewtree. Moreover, the same had also become obvious to the whistle -blower ‘Sue’.

The following is what she had to say on Watt along with some information on the pathetic excuse of a man. I have nothing more to add at this moment in time, except to say that this outrage must not be allowed to go away:

Who are these experts entrusted to investigate, report and achieve justice for victims caught up in these outrageous child sex abuse scandals?

Peter Watt, NSPCC Director of Child Protection Advice and Awareness, co-author of the report with the Detective Superintendent David Gray, Operation Yewtree’s Senior Investigating Officer.

Even the name of the ‘report’ into the allegations against Savile disturbs me. “Giving Victims a Voice.” Victims have a voice, and over decades, many used theirs to report sexual abuse by Savile and his paedophile friends but they were subsequently silenced or ignored.

What kind of people believe they can give victims, a voice? Perhaps the kind of people that know they can just as easily make that voice go away if it suits them to do so. One of the key things that needed to come out of the report, but doesnt, was clear and honest information about previous reporting of concerns and what were the reasons why absolutely nothing had been done during Savile’s lifetime to protect children in their hundreds from being sexually abused.

Immediately there appears to be a conflict of interest with Peter Watt co-authoring this report because of his current position as Director of Child Protection, within the NSPCC. The NSPCC clearly being one of the organisations that may indeed have some very serious questions to answer about some very serious child protection failings………

On Thursday the NSPCC released the following statement about the Jimmy Savile abuse scandal:

“It’s now looking possible that Jimmy Savile was one the most prolific sex offenders the NSPCC has ever come across. We have received over 136 calls directly relating to allegations against him which weve passed to the police. It’s important we recognise the brave step victims have taken in coming forward and we urge any other victims to do the same.”……………

Savile’s Scarborough flat sold to child charity chief

Jimmy Savile’s Scarborough flat has been sold to one of the country’s top campaigners against child abuse.

Sir Rodney Walker was a leading supporter of the NSPCC’s Full Stop campaign chaired by the Duke of York and backed by celebrities such as Madonna and Ewan McGregor.

The business and sports supremo personally raised £25 million for Britain’s biggest bid to stamp out child cruelty.

Now the millionaire snooker bigwig plans to sink a small fortune into doing up Savile’s second home in Wessex Court.

Savile originally bought the apartment overlooking the South Bay as a gift to his mother Agnes, keeping it as a shrine to her following her death.

Now new owner Sir Rodney, 69, aims to strip the apartment which he had been vying for since it went on the market last summer.

He says he had “no second thoughts” about clinching the deal after the scandal into Savile’s child sex abuse broke.

He said: “I think like everyone else in the country I was totally taken aback. I had never heard any rumours or any suggestion he was not the generous philanthropist we all thought he was.”…………..

William Hague’s 83-year-old daredevil dad performs breathtaking wing walk for charity… and even carries off a baseball cap (unlike his son)

By Anthony Bond

PUBLISHED: 06:51, 22 May 2012 | UPDATED: 08:19, 22 May 2012

When he was leader of the Conservative Party, William Hague went to great lengths to project a youthful image.

This included taking a ride on a log flume while wearing a baseball cap with the word Hague written on it, which led to him being mocked.

But when his father was spotted sporting a similar cap this weekend, it wasn’t anywhere near as embarrassing.

That’s because the 83-year-old daredevil dad of the Foreign Secretary was performing a breath-taking wing-walk for charity.

Daring Nigel Hague wanted to help raise the profile of the NSPCC.

He has so far raised more than £100,000 for the children’s charity with his white knuckle activities, such as completing a tandem skydive last year and an arduous climb in 2009………….

Operation Yewtree the biggest Police cover-up since Hillsborough

Crime and Parliamentary Affairs correspondent TIM HICKS follows up on the incredible revelations of misconduct in North Yorkshire Police revealed by the BBC Inside Out programme.

Jimmy Savile’s principal residence was in Leeds and he travelled regularly to Scarborough from 1960 onwards to visit his mother and to stay with her. He continued his close association with Scarborough after her death, staying there regularly in his flat at the Esplanade. It follows from this that the full and meticulous investigation of his activities in Leeds and Scarborough are of critical interest to Operation Yewtree, the Home Office, HM Inspector of Constabulary and the IPCC in determining why it was that he was able to offend for so long, without being arrested by the Police.

Yet the West Yorkshire Police investigation into Savile, called Operation Newgreen, has been widely condemned as a farce. Alan Collins, a solicitor representing 40 of Savile’s victims, is quoted in the press as having told ITV’s Daybreak programme:

“The report begs a lot more questions. It provides some answers but the report reveals memories that are not as sharp as perhaps they ought to be, ‘can’t remember’, documents that can’t seem to be located. It doesn’t add up. But my take is that there seems to be a collective myopia and the collective myopia is evidenced by Savile. He was able to run rings around the police for decades. He used police officers. He was ingrained with them, dovetailed with them.”

Unusually, Chief Constable Nick Gargan of Avon and Somerset has broken ranks and also criticised West Yorkshire Police over its handling of its Savile enquiry. He is quoted in the Yorkshire Post as saying:

“It seems clear to me that Operation Newgreen does not have the look and feel of an independent report. As I turned from one page to the next, I saw example after example of the author putting the case for West Yorkshire Police. At times this case was put with some force and emotion and more than a hint of exasperation with other bodies. In that respect, Operation Newgreen was unsuccessful if it was its intention to give an impression of independent assurance: it may even have had the effect of strengthening suspicion that West Yorkshire Police was at the very least being defensive.”

Mr Gargan suggested the force carry out a “very open and public examination of its actions” and a public engagement strategy to deal with issues raised by the review. He said:

“I think you will benefit from a situation in which your staff respond to criticism with the questions ‘maybe this person has a point’ more readily than ‘how do I prove them wrong?'”………..

Brand Watch: ChildLine

Third Sector, 22 April 2013

YouGov’s Anne Gammon looks at the public’s perception of ChildLine and the NSPCC six months after the Jimmy Savile scandal broke…

YouGov’s CharityIndex questions a representative sample of 125 different people each day on subjects such as the charities they have talked about with friends and family and the charities they have heard of. The results are used to generate scores about the public’s perception of an organisation

Last October, ITV’s Exposure programme carried evidence that Jimmy Savile was a serial sex offender. In January, a joint report by the Metropolitan Police and the NSPCC found that he is thought to have committed more than 200 offences.

This month’s Brand Watch looks at the impact of the scandal on NSPCC and ChildLine over the course of the past six months in the aftermath of the Savile revelations. While technically NSPCC and ChildLine are interlinked the former took over operational responsibility for the latter in 2006 we will treat each as distinct entities. The past six months are interesting from a charity branding perspective as it allows us to look at a parent brand (NSPCC) and the sub-brand (ChildLine) and see how they both fared………

Savile’s victims: barriers to reporting sexual abuse still exist

Report reveals children were ignored, felt unable to speak out and suffered trauma into adulthood

24 February 2014

Many of Savile’s victims were ignored or laughed at when they revealed at the time that he had sexually abused them, new NSPCC research shows.

Others were so convinced they wouldn’t be believed, because he was such a powerful and influential character that they stayed silent.

Some victims are still unable to speak out

And, 50 years on, a significant number of the men and women interviewed for the children’s charity’s report – ‘Would they have actually believed me’ – have still not confided in friends and family about the abuse.

Some of the victims, who were aged between 8 and 26-years-old when Savile assaulted them, told hospital staff who dismissed their claims. One of the 26 interviewed by NSPCC counsellors went to the police but no action was taken.

The vast majority were children when they were abused but four were adults. Some were even told they were ‘lucky someone like Savile had paid them attention’.

Devastating effects of abuse last into adulthood……

Jimmy Savile ‘Abused Corpses’ Shocking NHS Report Reveals

June 27 2014 at 3:29 PM

By Chris Greenwood and Martin Robinson

Published: 09:19, 26 June 2014 | Updated: 13:21, 27 June 2014

‘..A series of internal investigations published yesterday charted how the DJ became the most prolific sex attacker in living memory.

The mass of NHS reports into his crimes published yesterday revealed how Savile boasted about having sex with corpses and had jewellery made from glass eyes he removed from their bodies.

The sick paedophile also gloated to others that he enjoyed ‘posing’ with the corpses and said that he would ‘wheel them around’ at night at Leeds General Infirmary.

Investigators discovered the late DJ and Top of the Pops presenter claimed at least 103 victims aged between five and 75.

Starstruck NHS workers allowed Savile free reign to sexually abuse patients and hospital staff ‘didn’t want to hear or believe’ what his young victims were saying, the report said.

They detailed his 50 year reign of terror at 28 institutions including Leeds, Broadmoor and Stoke Mandeville hospital.

One witness told investigators that Savile revealed the origin of his ‘gross, big silver rings’ when she remarked on them.

He said: ‘D’you know what they are? They are glass eyes from dead bodies in Leeds Mortuary where I work and I love working there, and I wheel the dead bodies around at night and I love that.’

Another, unconnected witness – who was employed at the hospital – added: ‘I do remember seeing this ring he had on that looked like an eyeball and – and I must’ve mentioned it to him.

‘He said: ‘It’s made from the eyeball of a dead friend.”

A former nurse at Broadmoor Hospital said Savile told her about his appalling activities in Leeds.
He said he would ‘muck about’ posing dead bodies of men and women together before taking photographs.

She said: ‘I was a little bit upset because I had no concept, in those days, of – while I’d heard of necrophilia … but I didn’t understand what it meant.’

The nurse added that Savile said he sexually assaulted the bodies as well, something he dubbed ‘garamoosh’ – a reference to oral sex.

A former patient at Barnet General Hospital in London said nurses told her in 1983 that Savile ‘liked to have sex with dead bodies’.

Today’s report discussed how Savile had openly talked about his interest in the dead in media interviews over the years.

He told one interviewer about spending five days with the dead body of his mother……

The ad that was axed when British Rail heard rumours Savile was a necrophiliac

http://www.thedrum.com/news/2012/11/25/ad-was-axed-when-british-rail-heard-rumours-savile-was-necrophiliac

The now-defunct British Rail is the latest company to be caught up in the Jimmy Savile scandal after a lawyer working there during the 1980s claimed that it axed Jimmy Savile from its ‘Age of the Train’ campaign over rumours he was a necrophiliac.

The lawyer has told police that British Rail bosses made the decision after hearing Savile had had sex with bodies at a morgue in Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Bucks.

Savile was then dropped from the TV campaign promoting the InterCity 125 service.

The lawyer said he came forward with the information following the same claim from BBC presenter Paul Gambaccini on Radio 5, saying: “It struck a chord.”

“I remember having a discussion about this in the 1980s and I thought the police should be aware of it.”

“If there was a cover-up I wonder who else might have known. The explanation I had was that the revelations were intended to run in a newspaper but in the end they didn’t because of the damage this could cause to Savile’s charity work.

“When Savile continued to have a positive public profile I assumed I’d been given false information but recent developments made me reconsider.”

Savile denied these accusations in the 1990s, declaring: “Some people get hold of the fact that Jim likes looking after cadavers and say, ‘Aha, Jim’s a necrophiliac!’. I’m not a necrophiliac.”

CHINESE WHISPERS

October 30 2011, 9:45 PM
Jimmy Saville was an oddball. But that doesn’t necessary make him a sexual deviant. But did anyone watch the Louise Theroux documentary about Jimmy Saville? Video clip here.

Now listen carefully to what Saville says when interviewed in the car. He says that he has never had a relationship and has absolutely no feelings for anyone. (To stop himself getting hurt, apparently). This is a red flag for a necrophiliac!!!! They can’t emotionally respond to people, and so resort to fucking the dead. Add into the mix that his mother’s home was a shrine to her, and the fact that he kept her dead body for days, and the chances are that he was indeed a necrophiliac. Then add into the mix the Jersey care home scandal, where children were sexually tortured at the very least, and the fact that Saville said he hated children.

“Among the three types, it is actually the second type that is most common. In another study made on necrophilia, it was discovered that most necrophiliacs are employed in companies and industries where they may regularly have interaction with the dead. For example, most of them worked at a morgue or a funeral parlor where they were placed in charge of caring for the dead.

Aside from these professions, other necrophiliacs may also work as hospital orderlies or conduct their work in a cemetery as gravediggers. There have also been some known cases of necrophilia in people who have worked as clerics or soldiers. However, it should be stressed that necrophiliacs in all of these professions are more often the exception than the norm. They are still a very small and rare group of people who are very private in their sexual desires. Many people may engage in these professions where they are continually in contact with the dead but have never in their lives ever had the desire to violate a corpse in the manner that necrophiliacs do.”

Growing up with sex criminal Jimmy Savile

Nov 8, 2012

By Global Post

…Wearing cotton wool wigs made to resemble Savile’s strange mane of blond hair, we would pretend to puff on cigars. We even made posters advertising our “Jimmy Savile Days.” Once we rang his doorbell and ran away. Another time we left an address on his car windscreen and duly received an autographed photo.

It all seemed very funny at the time. As did our increasingly creepy Savile impersonations in which we voiced him inviting young girls to sit on his knee. Our puerile innuendos obviously picked up on something about his personality, even though we were oblivious to the fact that he was really guilty far worse.

I had more Jimmy Savile encounters in my 20s. I once entered a half-marathon for which I was hopelessly unfit. As I neared the 10-mile marker, an elderly Savile trotted past, cheered on by the crowd. I was quite impressed at the time, as when I subsequently read in his autobiography that he had once cycled to France.

A few years later, I dated a trainee nurse who sometimes worked at a Leeds hospital where he volunteered as a porter. She confirmed that there were whispers about Jimmy Savile using his access to commit unspeakable acts on corpses in the hospital morgue.

Such rumors were entertaining at the time because they were almost, but not quite, believable. Today, with allegations emerging daily about his activities – including one claim of necrophilia – they now seem disturbingly true…….

from re-published Independent On Sunday 1990 interview with Lynn Barber:

…His name has only ever been linked to one woman, his mother, whom he called the Duchess.

He was devoted to her the more so, perhaps, because, as the youngest child of seven, he’d had a fairly scant share of her attention. “I wasn’t her favourite by any means; I was fourth or fifth in the pecking order.” But when he became famous, he laid his fame and money at her feet, and they had l6 years before she died in 1973 where she had “everything”. He once told Joan Bakewell: “We were together all her life and there was nothing we couldn’t do. I got an audience with the Pope. Everything. But then, I was sharing her. When she died she was all mine. The best five days of my life were spent with the Duchess when she was dead. She looked marvellous. She belonged to me. It’s wonderful, is death.”

(Incidentally, he has an enthusiasm for dead bodies in general, which can be quite unnerving. The first time I ever met him, eight years ago, he raved on about all the bodies that came his way in the mortuary at Leeds Infirmary and how he wished he could take the healthy eyes from one and the good bones from another to repair his living patients at Stoke Mandeville. He sounded like Dr Frankenstein.)……

Number 10 needs to get a grip on the Dickens dossier disappearance before this turns into a political scandal

5 Jul 2014 at 13:35

I have been wracking my brains to recall what we knew and what we suspected about Parliamentarians being involved in paedophilia during my time in the Commons as an MP and a journalist between 1983 and 2002…

Of course we knew about the mortuary exploits of Jimmy Savile and his penchant for amputees. But we had no proof. We knew about Cyril Smith, various peers, senior people within Number 10, but again, no proof. And despite all my years of propping up bars and sifting the most bizarre gossip about the sexual practices of various Home Office ministers, usually served up by vindictive Police Federation whispers, most of the stuff was fairly flaky. My favourite piece of nonsense was about a senior labour Cabinet Minister who was unable to reach orgasm unless he stabbed young bunnies in a shoe box by the bed. And many of us watched, as was our duty, grainy footage of some unidentifiable old boy, grunting over what was said to be an underage boy. We were told it was a well known grandee. It could have been anyone. And the well known rumour that a very senior Labour figure was having sex with underaged boys in car parks, cautioned by the police and the paperwork destroyed, was pure malicious fantasy. The only evidence that seemed to stack was about Cyril Smith; but not enough to safely print……

A Jimmy Savile mini-special

Since Popbitch launched in 2000, we’ve often been asked which celebrity we’d had most stories about. It’s not David Beckham. Nor even Paul Danan. “Jimmy Savile”, was always the answer. Among a host of strange rumours is this one, the strangest. It involved Mr Savile, a penchant for necrophilia… and access to the morgue at Leeds General Infirmary which, the story went, he was given in return for his charity work. We’ve been told this story by probably 100+ people – including two DJs, six journalists and a member of the House of Lords – it was even supposed to be one of Larry Grayson’s favourite yarns. But most often it was told to us by a Leeds resident, the Rev Goatboy, late of this parish, who always promised to leave the evidence to support this wild theory with one reliable person, on condition we’d only use it after Savile’s death. Sadly, none of us can remember who was supposed to have been the guardian of this evidence. So we have none. We’ll have to add this magnificent rumour to the pantheon of apocraphal celebrity stories for now. Unless it’s you that has the evidence… (if so: , please)

Savile sex scandal hits horrific new low as former colleague Paul Gambaccini claims on Radio Five Live that DJ was a ‘necrophiliac’

Former BBC DJ said he was aware of claims in the eighties

‘The expression I came to associate with Savile’s sexual partners was “under-age subnormals”, says colleague of the Jim’ll Fix It presenter

In 1990 interview Savile dismissed claims he was a necrophiliac after saying he took pleasure in taking dead people to a hospital mortuary

A former BBC colleague of Jimmy Savile has claimed the predatory paedophile was a necrophiliac.

It is one of the most extraordinary allegations to have come out in the wake of the scandal.

The claim was made on Radio 5 Live today by Paul Gambaccini, who started working as a DJ on Radio 1 in 1973.

Mr Gambaccini, 63, said he was aware of the necrophilia claims in the eighties.
He questioned why newspapers had not acted when he said a reporter had boasted that his colleagues were aware of a story linking Savile to ‘necrophilia’.

His comments astounded presenter Nicky Campbell who tried to stop the conversation by warning the allegations were not in the public domain.

Campbell said: ‘That particularly lurid accusation that you have just brought to people’s attention is one that has not been in the public domain.’

Gambaccini agreed and asked ‘why not?’. And he asked: ‘Who vetted the knighthood? Coco the clown?

He had worked with Savile at Radio 1 where he had first heard stories about his abuse of under-age girls.

He said the BBC was not the only organisation at fault for failing to expose Savile, saying the press was equally to blame.

He claimed a reporter was heard talking at a wedding 10 years ago about Savile being a necrophiliac.

He said that he used a ‘politically incorrect’ term to categorise the people to whom Savile devoted his attentions.

He said: ‘The expression I came to associate with Savile’s sexual partners was either one used by production assistants or one I made up to summarise their reports … “under-age subnormals”.

‘He targeted the institutionalised, the hospitalised – and this was known. Why did Jimmy go to hospitals? That’s where the patients were.’

Mr Gambaccini continued to say today that Savile’s alleged abuse was taking place at a time when staff failed to get to grips with the concept of paedophilia.

‘It was considered so far beyond the pale that people didn’t believe it happened,’ he said during the 5 Live Breakfast Show.

He said the entire society was taken in by Savile – ‘including the Prime Minister who invited him to Chequers; including the royal family, photographed with him, he got a knighthood in this country, he got a papal knighthood.

‘This is not just the BBC this is history, this is a man who conned an entire society,’ Gambaccini added.

It also emerged earlier this month that Savile denied claims he was sexually attracted to corpses in an interview in 1990, after he admitted taking pleasure in taking the deceased to Stoke Mandeville Hospital mortuary.

The hospital, where Savile worked as a volunteer and had his own room, said that it has never received claims that Savile ‘inappropriately interacted’ with corpses.

A spokesman said: ‘We are not launching an investigation into claims that Savile was a necrophiliac. We have never received any complaints as to that nature.’

‘During our time, to the best of our knowledge, Jimmy was not given free access around our clinical areas and whenever he attended the hospital he would give advance notice and usually be in attendance with his fundraising team.’

Travis: I have ‘cuddly nature’

11:25am Monday 27th January 2014

…Travis, who is on trial accused of indecently assaulting 10 women and sexually assaulting another, said: “I do not have a predatory nature with women, I have a cuddly nature.

“Maybe that’s what this is all about, but I am not predatory.

“If I really like somebody I will put my arm around them and I might give them a peck on the cheek, I even do that with men, to make them feel comfortable and welcome to the place.”

The 68-year-old said that although “people automatically assume” he must have got on with Savile because they were both in showbusiness, they never really had a conversation…..

The Celebrity Shopping Trolley – Lynsey de Paul

…Michael’s Verdict

I first met Lynsey de Paul at the home of one of my oldest friends Dave Lee Travis DLT aka The Hairy Monster. Now, Dave is very tall and Lynsey is not and these two, side by side, was quite a sight. Pert, blond, pocket size and bubbly Lynsey next to giant, black bearded and very loud Dave was not a combination you could ignore.

It must be more than 20 years since that first encounter yet I have never seen Lynsey without a smile or the boundless energy that has been evident throughout her remarkable career…

Dave Lee Travis: Look out, Suu Kyi he’s a bit touchy

The Burmese politician wants to meet the DJ after listening to his show, but is she aware of the hands-on side of the Hairy Cornflake?

Camilla Long Published: 17 June 2012

I spent 90 minutes with the former Radio 1 DJ Dave Lee Travis last Thursday and I don’t think there is a part of my body that he didn’t grope. He fondled my foot, inched his hands up my thighs, tried to make me sit on his lap and kissed me. He copped a feel of my hips when I foolishly asked for a tour of his studio, stroked my chin and my back and gave me a full body hug as I left.

I know he has a reputation for flirting but honestly, he is nearly 70. And we were meant to be talking about Aung San Suu Kyi. The Burmese opposition leader said last year that she used to listen to his programme on the BBC World Service during her house arrest and his show made her world “much more complete”. Apparently she wants to meet him…..

Published on 15 Nov 2012
Burma’s democratic opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi meets Dave Lee Travis, the radio presenter whose broadcasts kept her spirits up during her years of imprisonment.

When they met Travis can be seen grabbing Aung San Suu Kyi’s hand and pressing it close to his body beneath his jacket. Not content with this Travis’s other hand is then seen strengthening the hold ensuring Aung San Suu Kyi is unable to withdraw her hand.

Only when Travis decides he has had enough of her attention does he release Aung San Suu Kyi’s hand. The press venue allowed Travis free reign and Aung San Suu Kyi could not escape Travis’s clutches. Aung San Suu Kyi is plainly uncomfortable at Travis’s inappropriate behaviour.

Eventually Travis releases Aung San Suu Kyi’s hand from his clammy two handed grip and he then places a kiss on her released hand. Immediately Aung San Suu Kyi breaks eye contact with Travis and wasting no time she hastily turns her entire body away from Travis to lose him in the press melee.

At the end Aung San Suu Kyi makes off and Travis is left looking forlornly after her. Travis is left like a kid looking inside the sweetshop window whilst deprived of this weeks pocket money.

A mate of mine was telling me a story that his ex-girlfriends dad used to know DLT a little and was invited to a party where there were quite a few radio stars, DLT being one of them. My mate said that his ex-girlfriend said that DLT was a proper perving all over her and that she was about 13 at the time. She said he was a very creepy man.

Former Radio 4 presenter Vivien Creegor: ‘Dave Lee Travis jiggled my breasts live on air’

http://www.tntmagazine.com/news/uk/former-radio-4-presenter-vivien-creegor-dave-lee-travis-jiggled-my-breasts-live-on-air

As a result of the investigation into Jimmy Savile, two former employees have claimed that ex-Radio 1 presenter Dave Lee Travis molested them in the BBC studios.
Dave Lee Travis is another suspect in a number of alleged sex allegations against former employees at the BBC, these new allegations claim Travis put his hand up a 17-year-old’s skirt in 1977.
Meanwhile, Vivien Creegor, a presenter on Sky News, explained that she had also experience some inappropriate behaviour from the presenter, and claimed that he had ‘jiggled her breast’ during a live Radio 4 broadcast in the 1980s.
The woman, who was assaulted when she was 17, has given a formal statement to the police. Creegor is believed to be complaining to BBC director George Entwistle.
Presenters Sandi Toksvig and Liz Kershaw have also claimed that they were often assaulted by their male colleagues.
Travis released a statement: “I categorically deny that there is any substance in either allegation and I’m genuinely surprised that allegations of this nature have been made. I totally refute any impropriety.”
Creegor remembers: “‘I was sitting in the Radio 4 studio, which at the time backed on to the studio where Dave did his show. I could see him coming into the studio,” reported The Daily Mail. “I indicated to him to sit down but… as I went to speak his hands clamped down on my boobs over my jumper and moved them around. I didn’t have a choice. I couldn’t say anything to him because I had to finish my [Woman’s Hour] announcement. When I had, he sat down and started talking as if nothing had happened.”
Creegor claimed that sex abuse allegations were not taken seriously at the BBC, and she felt that if she reported the incident it may have jeopardized her career.
“No woman who valued her career would have been happy to put her name down on a harassment claim.
“You could say I was cowardly but, when I told someone, they just laughed it off and thought it was funny that was the climate at the BBC at the time.”

Dave Lee Travis To Face Sex Assault Retrial

Monday, 24th February 2014 10:10

The former Radio 1 DJ was speaking after a hearing at Southwark Crown Court where he learned he will face a retrial on charges that a jury previously failed to reach a verdict on.

As he left the court with his wife by his side, Mr Travis addressed journalists and said: “I told you I’d been through 18 months of a nightmare. Apparently, I was wrong, because the nightmare is now going to go on.

“This whole thing started when I was 67 and I just hope it’s going to end by the time I’m 80.”

Prosecutor Miranda Moore earlier told the court: “The prosecution is seeking a retrial for two outstanding counts.”…

During his five-week trial Travis denied the charges, insisting the women made up the attacks so they “could cash in” and sell their stories.

One of the undecided allegations relates to an alleged indecent assault on a theatre employee in the early 90s when Travis was performing in the pantomime Aladdin in Crawley.

The undecided sexual assault charge relates to a reporter who was sent to interview Travis at his home in 2008…

Metropolitan Police investigated the former DJ as part of Operation Yewtree, the force’s investigation into allegations of historic sexual abuse by high-profile figures after details of Jimmy Savile’s past crimes emerged.

Thank goodness Britain is such a different country from that in which Jimmy Savile got away with it

In the gruesome Savilean scheme of things, the Hairy Cornflake accusations may seem comparatively trivial. Neither involves paedophilia, though the alleged victims are entitled to be less sanguine themselves. One woman, the newsreader Vivien Creeger, relates how he once popped into a Radio 4 studio and “jiggled my breasts” as she was broadcasting live to the nation. Another, unnamed at the time of writing, has given a police statement in which she unfondly recalls how, in 1977 when she was 17, he cordially invited her into his own studio and put his hand up her skirt.

Far be it from me to offer damage limitation advice after the event, but Mr Travis’s denial would not, I think, impress Max Clifford or Malcolm Tucker. Having stoutly dismissed the claims as “utter bollocks”, DLT whom a female interviewer recently alleged that he touched many parts of her body unbidden would have done well to leave it at that. Instead, before bolstering the denial with a steadfast “I refute any impropriety”, he arguably compromised his own wholly gonadic analysis with a reflection on the prevailing sexual mores of the era. “It was a different world in the 70s,” said Mr Travis. “All institutions were the same back then.”

If by “institutions” he intended to refer to the minimum-security psychiatric hospital for terminally delusional self-perceived sex gods which Radio 1 increasingly appears to have been, hats off for letting that shard of insightfulness pierce the protective bubble of righteous indignation……………..

Exposure Update – The Jimmy Savile Investigation

Savile raped boy of 10 & assaulted 12yr old girl at Top of the Pops studio

Jimmy Savile ‘raped boy of 10 and assaulted 12-year-old girl at Top of the Pops studios’

Report into BBC culture finds flagship music programme was effectively a ‘picking-up’ opportunity for predators

Top of the Pops put young girls at risk and was effectively a “picking-up” opportunity for predators like Jimmy Savile, a report into the culture of the BBC has found.

In the long-awaited report into the scandal, Dame Janet Smith’s review found there was a culture of “reverence and fear” towards celebrities at the corporation and that “an atmosphere of fear still exists today in the BBC”.

The report finds that Savile carried out sex attacks on 72 victims in “virtually every one of the BBC premises in which he worked”.

It states that no senior manager at the BBC “ever found out about any specific complaint relating to Savile’s inappropriate sexual conduct in connection with his work for the BBC”.

However, it says some junior and middle-ranking staff were aware of Savile’s “inappropriate sexual behaviour”. In total, 117 witnesses who had worked at the BBC had “heard rumours” of Savile’s activities.

the report also details criticisms of one of the corporation’s flagship programmes fronted by Savile – Top of the Pops.

Dame Janet says in the rpeort: “It seems to me obvious that those girls were at real risk of moral danger. I cannot think that it was acceptable for the BBC as a public service broadcaster to run a programme which effectively provided a ‘picking up’ opportunity.”

10-janet-smith-reuters.jpg

Dame Janet Smith’s review found there was a culture of “reverence and fear” towards celebrities at the BBC

One of Savile’s victims was a 12-year-old girl from Scotland who persuaded her aunt to take her to see the show.

The girl had travelled to London to visit the relative, who agreed to accompany her to the studios in December 1973.

She and a 10-year-old boy ended up being taken to a dressing room to meet Savile, who still had on the Womble costume he had worn to present the show.

The woman, who now lives abroad, told the review that after chatting for around 15 minutes Savile raped the boy before sexually assaulting her.

Afterwards the presenter put an arm round each of them and told them that what had happened was a “secret”.

The victim said she remembers walking to the Tube station and telling her aunt they had seen Slade and had had pop and biscuits with Savile.

The report said: “She did not tell anyone what had happened.

“She thought it was her fault and that she might go to hell for what she had done.”

Savile was a regular visitor to Scotland and owned a cottage in Glencoe which was sold after his death.

The woman came forward after seeing a newspaper advertisement placed by a firm of solicitors, inviting victims of Savile to make contact.

The man who had been in Savile’s dressing room with her had instructed the same firm and one testimony supported the other, with Dame Janet Smith saying “I accept their accounts as true”.

The review heard evidence that Savile would on occasion bring an entourage of middle-aged men with him to the studios.

Describing the man who escorted the two children to his room, the report said: “If the man with the earring was one of the entourage, it would explain first why a boy of 10 and a girl of 12 were let into the studio.

“Second, if the man with the earring was keeping guard outside the dressing room, the risk which Savile took by behaving as he did with these two children would be much reduced.”

SIR Terry Wogan KNEW about Savile, but never said a word.. Wanker

WOGAN DESCRIBES SAVILE..

Terry Wogan pulls out of Children In Need last minute ANOTHER PAEDO?? reblog from BDT NEWS

At the very last minute the long term presenter of Children In Need Terry Wogan has pulled out, but why? Has he been told to stay away? It’s looks just like that! Looks like Wogan is the next to  be arrested..
Savile on BBC’s Children In Need
Wogan 77, has been familiar face on the charity fundraiser since it made its debut on 1980.
Wogan recently revealed he would love to keep going for another decade.
He said: “I’m used to long days. I do seven hours on my feet of live TV for Children in Need every year, so the day I can’t stand up is when I will stop doing it.
“I’d love to keep going another 10 years, I’ll cling to the wreckage as long as I can. I’m supposed to be retiring, but I’m not.
“I have no plans to retire – they’ll have to carry me off stage.”
The star is also known for the BBC chat show Wogan, the game show Blankety Blank and Come Dancing.
He was the BBC’s commentator for the Eurovision Song Contest from 1971 to 2008 before being replaced by Graham Norton.
He currently presents a two-hour Sunday morning show, Weekend Wogan, on BBC Radio 2.

Either he will be arrested or be another paedo celeb who “died” before arrest.

The mysterious death of Terry Wogan

Rantzen and Wogan

BBC presenter Terry Wogan has apparently died of cancer.

How strange.

Less than three months ago he appeared in tip-top health and vowed to the world he would:

continue working for another 10 years

Sir_Terry_Wogan

His death comes hot on the heels of another famous BBC DJ, Ed Stewart.

Ed Stewart

Quite coincidentally , one of the first people to come out and praise Terry Wogan was none other than decrepit hag, Esther Rantzen.

What a charmer

esther savile

Rantzen is a key player in the BBC paedophile ring and claims to have known nothing about Jimmy Savile raping thousands of children.

What a fucking liar.

Rantzen loves to hold child-abuse parties at her Blood Oaks Farm property in Hampshire and should be arrested as a matter of urgency.

Blood Oaks Farm

She knew damn well about Savile, make no mistake about that.

And so did Terry Wogan.

Sir Terry Wogan speaks of his hatred of Jimmy Savile and says his crimes were open secret at BBC

Terry Wogan

“Savile has poisoned everything”: Terry Wogan

Veteran TV and radio legend Sir Terry Wogan has spoken of his hatred of Jimmy Savile and how his crimes were an open secret at the BBC.

The 75-year-old broadcaster has told of how he despised Savile and how his horrific legacy of child abuse has “poisoned” the BBC.

He said: “He always struck me as creepy. I’ve talked to people and not one of them has said: ‘I really liked him.’”

The Children in Need host recalled a celebrity lunch with journalists revealing that it was common knowledge in the industry what Savile was up to.

“I was sitting at a table having lunch and Savile was sitting one up from me, and also up from me was Jean Rook (the legendary columnist)

“And Jimmy Savile got up to go to the loo, and she looked across at me and said: ‘When are they going to expose him?’

And I said ‘that’s your job.’ And nobody ever did, even though everyone had heard the rumours.

“This whole Savile thing has poisoned everything.”

The Radio Two DJ says he worked with Savile on Children in Need and Jim’ll Fix it adding: “He had no talent, except for bombast and self-promotion.

“You kind of admired him for doing as well as he’d done, without any talent whatsoever.”

But Sir Terry is more defensive of Stuart Hall who was jailed in the summer for a series of indecent assaults on children describing him as “a good-humoured fella, very ebullient.

“Jolly, hearty, a good broadcaster, a funny man. I’m not trying to excuse him.

“But it will be interesting to see what will happen when all these cases come to court, how many are proved.”

And he is critical of the way he believes the police have conducted the inquiries into high-profile suspects saying: “The police have obviously decided they must ring the press, knock on people’s doors and arrest them in full view.”

Sir Terry, who has worked for the BBC for all his illustrious career, believes the Corporation has become “too big’ but says it is still “the greatest broadcaster in the world.”

But he has little sympathy for older women in broadcasting who have recently protested the BBC is no longer interested in employing them.

“I think a number of people who have been protesting originally got the jobs because of their glamour. It is a visual medium.”

And he adds that the current crop of attractive women presenters like Holly Willoughby and Tess Daly will be “replaced to the next generation of attractive female presenters.”

BBC’s £10m whitewash of Savile scandal: Report ‘clears’ TV chiefs

img_20151006_212304.jpg

BBC’s £10m whitewash of Savile scandal: Report ‘clears’ TV chiefs who were warned about years of sick abuse

  • Leaked £10m inquiry reveals Jimmy Savile abused 45 victims at the BBC
  • Children as young as nine attacked in ‘every BBC building’ he worked in
  • Stars knew rumours of interest in children – widespread within the BBC
  • 107 heard he was a paedophile – others heard he had sex with the dead
  • ‘Deferential’ bosses ignored his abuse to protect then UK’s biggest star
  • Inquiry chief Dame Janet Smith says another paedophile could be lurking
  • BBC bosses may have to face MPs to prove the corporation has changed

Jimmy Savile’s victims accused the BBC of a £10million whitewash last night after a leaked official investigation cleared executives of any wrongdoing despite revealing they were warned of his abuse.

Although 107 people suspected Savile of molesting young girls, managers did nothing to stop him because they had no ‘hard evidence’, a draft of the broadcaster’s review into the scandal found.

Celebrities who reported hearing stories about the star’s predilections included Esther Rantzen and Terry Wogan, Dame Janet Smith’s review says.

The review was commissioned by the BBC to consider the culture and practices at the corporation during the years that Savile worked there.

Free reign: Sir Jimmy Savile abused 45 victims as young as nine, including four rapes, in plain view but a leaked report has refused to blame the BBC for not stopping him

Louis Theroux was warned Savile abused dead bodies - two years before making a film about him

Evidence: Esther Rantzen was one of six stars who had heard stories that Savile had an interest in children while Louis Theroux was warned Savile abused dead bodies – two years before making a film about him

It says there is ‘some’ evidence Savile was involved in a paedophile ring at the BBC and, chillingly, warns that another Savile ‘could be lurking undiscovered in the BBC even today’. But a culture of secrecy means whistleblowers are even more afraid now than 40 years ago.

The report reveals that Savile – who died in 2011 aged 84 – behaved inappropriately on at least 61 different occasions, including 45 counts of physical sexual abuse.

Four of the victims were raped, including two girls under 16. Three of his victims were as young as nine. One of those little girls was taken to the BBC on several occasions, and ‘taken round to various men who would abuse her’, the report said.

Yesterday some of the victims said they were furious that they had to relive their ordeals to an inquiry which turned out to be an expensive ‘sham’ designed to get the BBC off the hook.

Katrina Rose, 54, who was abused by Savile at his Belgravia flat as a 14-year-old, said she was ‘devastated’ by the findings. ‘I didn’t really expect to be upset because part of me was expecting it to be a whitewash but I feel really let down by this,’ she said.

Miss Rose decided to waive her anonymity and tell her story to the Daily Mail before recounting it to the BBC inquiry. ‘Asking us to give evidence and then finding that no one at the BBC was at fault nullifies what we all went through,’ she said.

‘Saying that the BBC bosses can’t be blamed in any way is absolutely awful. They [told us]: “We’re listening to you, we’re taking notes”, but for what purpose?

‘To say that that was the climate at the time is no excuse.’ Victims’ lawyer Liz Dux denounced the report as ‘not credible’.

The review, which was leaked to the website Exaro, was pieced together from interviews with 260 witnesses, including senior TV executives such as Lord Grade and Alan Yentob. It found that senior bosses were warned about Savile’s behaviour, but when they looked into it, it seems that their primary concern was that a public scandal that could damage the BBC’s reputation.

TV producers who worked closely with Savile saw him behaving inappropriately with young teenagers but insist they did not know he was having sex with them.

The review blames the broadcaster for a deferential culture where ‘untouchable’ stars were treated with kid gloves.

THE BBC BOSSES WHO KNEW ABOUT SAVILE … AND DID NOTHING ABOUT IT

Alan Yentob, controller of BBC1 from 1993 to 1996

Tales of Savile’s predilection for young girls reached some of the BBC’s most senior managers long before he was asked to present Jim’ll Fix It, yet his career continued to flourish.

A few made inquiries into his behaviour – but largely this was only to check whether his behaviour posed a risk to the BBC’s reputation. Other senior figures, including two who ran BBC1 while he was a presenter, said they did not hear anything about his behaviour until 2012, when the scandal erupted.

Douglas Muggeridge, then controller of Radio 1 and 2, was warned about Savile around 1973 and spoke to BBC press officer Rodney Collins.

He explained that he had heard allegations about Savile having sex with underage girls in his caravan and wanted to check whether the newspapers were planning to print any stories about the ‘inappropriate liaisons’. Mr Collins told Mr Muggeridge that the press were unwilling to print the tales, even if true, because Savile did so much for charity and was ‘perceived as a very popular man’.

Mr Muggeridge died in 1985. Roger Ordish, producer of Jim’ll Fix It for two decades, once saw two teenage girls coming out of the star’s dressing room, and talked to a colleague about whether Savile had had sex with them. He was warned by another colleague that ‘Savile should not be left alone with children’.

But in a 2012 interview he insisted that news of the star’s campaign of abuse had come as a ‘terrible shock’.

Dame Janet said Mr Ordish was a ‘creature of his time’, adding: ‘Nobody at the BBC would want the Jim’ll Fix It ship to capsize. And the Jim’ll Fix It ship depended on Savile.’ Mr Ordish could not be reached for comment.

Nick Vaughan-Barratt worked with Savile throughout the 1970s. On one occasion, Savile even asked him to pick up a teenage girl from his flat in Leeds.

When Savile fell ill in 2010, Mr Vaughan-Barratt told the BBC he would feel ‘queasy’ about preparing an obituary as he had seen ‘the real truth’. But he told the review he had not known anything about Savile’s sexual impropriety.

Michael Grade, controller of BBC1 from 1984 to 1986, admitted there was a ‘groupie culture’ around certain BBC stars

Dame Janet says he ‘must have seen something that had caused him some concern… he is plainly not going to tell me.’ Mr Vaughan-Barratt, who left the BBC in 2012, declined to comment. Derek Chinnery, then head of programmes for Radio 1, also heard rumours about Savile and challenged him. However, Savile replied that they were ‘nonsense and that there was no truth in them’ and he let the matter drop. Mr Chinnery died last year.

Alan Yentob, controller of BBC1 from 1993 to 1996, worked at the corporation for almost all of Savile’s career, but says he did not hear any rumours about the DJ’s behaviour until 2012.

He admitted that ‘the top end’ of the BBC had not ‘paid sufficient attention’ to what was going on. He suggested that managers were probably more forgiving in those days because Savile was ‘so loved and liked’. Mr Yentob could not be reached for comment yesterday.

Michael Grade, controller of BBC1 from 1984 to 1986, admitted there was a ‘groupie culture’ around certain BBC stars, and that Savile’s boasts about his sex life would not have been taken very seriously. Even if they had been, bosses would have reacted only if they thought Savile’s actions were going to harm the BBC by causing a scandal, Lord Grade said. He declined to comment last night.

Yesterday, Savile’s nephew Guy Marsden said the star regarded his bosses as ‘insignificant nothings’ and claimed that the BBC ‘quaked in front of him’. ‘It was impossible for the high-ups not to know what was going [on],’ he said. ‘They all knew at the BBC what was going on. They were just hoping it would not come out.’

However, Dame Janet said: ‘I do not think that the BBC can be criticised for failing to uncover Savile’s sexual deviancy. Nobody in a senior position at the BBC was ever aware of information that could have led to or assisted in the prosecution of Savile.’

Last night, Meirion Jones, the former BBC journalist whose Newsnight investigation into Savile was suppressed in 2012, said: ‘There is very useful information here about just how high it went, but the conclusion is a whitewash.’ A spokesman for Dame Janet stressed that the leaked document was an ‘early’ draft, and that people should not rely on it.

Support: Abuse lawyer Liz Dux, who represent 168 Savile victims,

Director general Tony Hall described Savile as a ‘dark chapter in the history of the BBC’ but declined to comment fully until the final report is published.

Lawyer Liz Duz said today the 168 Savile victims she represents would not accept the retired judge’s ‘incredible’ decision to clear all bosses for failing to intervene.

Mrs Dux said it ‘beggars belief’ and is ‘not credible’ because the inquiry also found Savile struck in studios, dressing rooms, corridors, staircases and even on camera in virtually every BBC building.

She said: ‘I find it incredible that 107 people gave evidence to having heard rumours of his depravity and inappropriate sexual behaviour yet no-one in a position of authority seemed to be aware’.

Bosses including Director General Tony Hall may be hauled before MPs to prove the BBC has changed after the report said there could still be a paedophile ‘lurking undiscovered’.

BBC stars suspected that Jimmy Savile was a ‘groper and a paedophile’ who interfered with corpses but nobody at the corporation tried to stop him, Dame Janet’s £10million inquiry has found.

Dame Esther Rantzen, Sir Terry Wogan, Louis Theroux, Nicky Campbell, and Andy Kershaw were among 107 people who admitted hearing rumours and stories about the child abuser’s ‘darker side’.

Figures from the report reveal that half of those witnesses believed he was interested in young girls from stories they were told or what they saw.

A leaked report has revealed Savile was ‘untouchable’ and abused 45 victims as young a nine in virtually every BBC building and even on live TV, all under the noses of his ‘deferential’ bosses.

Dame Janet said Savile ‘never had any fear that any of the girls would report him’ and those who did were either thrown off BBC property or told it was just ‘Jimmy messing around’, her draft report said.

Broadcaster Mark Lawson told Dame Janet Smith’s inquiry a common joke at the BBC was: ‘What do Margaret Thatcher and Jimmy Savile have in common? They both screwed the miners/minors’.

But Dame Janet’s report has caused fury by refusing to blame the BBC for failing to uncover Savile’s´sexual deviancy’, a claim which the lawyer represent 168 of his victims branded ‘incredible

The Dame Janet Smith review was set up shortly after Savile´s crimes were finally exposed, and has interviewed 375 witnesses, 107 of which said they heard the DJ was a paedophile.

A draft report due to be published in six weeks was leaked to Exaro today, and revealed Savile attacked victims ‘in the corridors, the canteens, the staircases and dressing rooms of every BBC premises’.

The inquiry found:

  • Jimmy Savile attacked 45 victims – three as young as nine – and raped four victims
  • Boozy and ‘deferential’ management allowed star to do what he liked at the BBC
  • Management including Alan Yentob and Michael Grade claim they had no idea
  • Staff were too afraid to report Savile to managers – and one described him like a violent ‘gangland boss’
  • Stars say rumours about Savile being a paedophile were well known at the BBC and beyond
  • BBC closed ranks after the suicide of ‘abused’ 15-year-old Top of the Pops dancer
  • BBC personalities like Jimmy Savile were ‘untouchable stars’ and perceived as ‘above the law’ – Savile was ‘more valuable than the values’ of the Corporation.
  • There was a culture of keeping the ‘talent’ happy. Dame Janet says: ‘The producers of the programmes on which Savile worked did not ask him to stop his habit of wet kissing or licking the hands and arms of staff members to whom he was introduced.’
  • £10million inquiry warns that ‘a predatory child abuser could be lurking undiscovered in the BBC today.’

Six major stars were among the witnesses who told the inquiry stories about Savile being a paedophile were rife.

Dame Esther Rantzen was one of many who described how ‘repulsive’ Savile was, and said once when they met the DJ kissed her hand then licked her the length of her arm.

The That’s Life presenter and ChildLine founder told the inquiry she first heard rumours in the 1970s and ‘was told by the sound editor of Savile’s Travels that Savile had recorded himself having sex with nurses at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

‘Her personal experience of him was that he was repulsive in the way he kissed, or, rather, licked, her hand and up her arm when they met’, Dame Janet says in her report.

Film maker Louis Theroux, 45, said in 1998 he was told Savile had a fetish for dead bodies and abusing the disabled, two years before he made a chilling documentary about the DJ’s strange life.

Mr Theroux was one of five or six people who told Dame Janet Savile was a necrophiliac and his 2000 intimate film with the DJ hinted clearly that he was a sex offender, the inquiry said.

BBC DJs Sir Terry Wogan, Nicky Campbell and Andy Kershaw also said that they had heard he was a pervert with a thing for young girls.

Mr Kershaw said he ‘heard stories relating to Savile’s interest in underage girls’ and ‘had sex with young teenage girls in his campervan’

The report said: ‘Mr Kershaw added these rumours were rife throughout the entertainment industry and were not limited to the BBC’.

But yet Savile’s abuse of 45 at the BBC, and hundreds more across the country over many decades, only emerged after his death – when it was too late to prosecute him.

According to today’s leaked report, published by Exaro, Dame Janet wrote: ‘There were a number of specific rumours. Perhaps most surprising is that several people (about five or six) heard that Savile was a necrophiliac.

‘Some heard that he was a paedophile. Some heard that he took girls to his caravan for sex’.

None of the stars were blamed by the inquiry for not speaking out, and the report said that employees were scared to tell seniors as they ‘appeared to have the ability to influence careers’.

The report said: ‘It would be a brave person indeed who would make a complaint against such a person’.

THE BBC HOUSEHOLD NAMES WHO SUSPECTED SAVILE WAS A PAEDOPHILE

Dame Janet Smith spoke to 107 people who believed or heard rumours that Jimmy Savile was a paedophile.

As part of her inquiry Dame Janet spoke to BBC stars, interviews which were produced in her draft report, published by Exaro today.

Sir Terry Wogan admitted to the £10million inquiry he heard of Savile's reputation  Dame Esther Rantzen first heard about him in the 1970s -

Dame Esther Rantzen

Esther Rantzen heard that Savile was sexually interested in young girls. She first heard about him in the 1970s from a researcher who had come from the BBC from a job in Fleet Street.

She heard that the people making a programme about Savile in the ITV series This is Your life had wished to include the parents of a young girl with heart problems for whom Savile had provided financial help.

The parents refused to allow that and she said the implication was there was another side to it, which was a darker side. But, she said, this rumour was one of many which ‘swirled around’ at the time in respect of all sorts of famous people.

Ms Rantzen said that she was told by the sound editor of Savile’s Travels that Savile had recorded himself having sex with nurses; there was no suggestion the nurses were unwilling. Her personal experience of him was that he was repulsive in the way he kissed or, rather, licked her hand and up her arm when they met.

Sir Terry Wogan

Sir Terry Wogan is reported to have descroibed a conversation about Savile with well-known columnist Jean Rook, in which she asked: When are you goung to expose him?’ And he replied: ‘That’s your job’.

Sir Terry is reported to have commented to the press ‘And nobody ever did (expose him), even though everybody had heard these rumours. The review wished to speak to Sir Terry but unfortunately he said he was too busy working on Children in Need.

The Review then asked him if he could confirm the accuracy of the press report, to which he replied confirming Ms Rook had make the reported remark but his recollection was that he had not replied directly but had only thought to himself ‘Surely that’s your job’. He added that he knew nothing about Savile apart from a vague rumour, which, he said tended to be about Savile’s sharp commercial practices and his shameless use of charity work for his own greater glory, rather than his sexual behaviour.

Andy Kershaw told Dame Janet they had heard rumours that Savile was a paedophile  Nicky Campbell also told Dame Janet they had heard rumours - but bosses claim they knew nothing

Andy Kershaw who became a Radio 1 DJ, first heard rumours and stories about Savile in the early 1980s. He heard from many sources that, in the 1950s and 1960s, Savile had a reputation as a gangland enforcer and would personally use physical violence against anyone who upset those who ran nightclubs and dance halls in Leeds.

When Mr Kershaw joined the BBC he was advised by John Walters, who had in the past produced programmes with Savile, to steer clear of Savile because he was a ‘bad lot’ and ‘nasty piece of work’. Mr Kershaw found that was so.

He heard stories relating to Savile’s interest in underage girls; for example it was said he had sex with young teenage girls in his campervan. Mr Kershaw added these rumours were rife throughout the entertainment industry and were not limited to the BBC.

Nicky Campbell, Radio DJ and presenter, heard rumours that Savile was a necrophiliac but thought it was utterly incredible and regarded it as an urban myth. His personal impression was that he was sexless.

Mark Lawson admitted there was a common joke made about the DJ's interest in children   Louis Theroux heard he was a necrophiliac two years before he made his documentary

Mark Lawson, the journalist, broadcaster and author, heard rumours about Savile before he joined the BBC and afterwards. Whilst at the BBC, he heard that Savile was a groper and a paedophile. He told the review of a ‘joke’ that dated from two decades ago: ‘What do Margaret Thatcher and Jimmy Savile have in common? They both screwed the miners/ minors.’

107 witnesses, including household names, told the retired judge they believed Savile was a paedophile – BBC bosses including Alan Yentob and Michael Grade told the inquiry they had no idea.

SAVILE REPORT REVEALS BBC’S FAILURE TO STOP PERVERT DJ

Dame Janet Smith Report – Key BBC Failings

  • BBC personalities like Jimmy Savile were ‘untouchable stars’ and perceived as ‘above the law’. A former BBC worked described him as being regarded as ‘more valuable than the values’ of the Corporation.
  • A ‘very deferential’ and hierarchical structure meant the junior employees would be scared to blow the whistle on their seniors as they ‘appeared to have the ability to influence careers’. The report comments: ‘It would be a brave person indeed who would make a complaint against such a person’.
  • There was a culture of keeping the ‘talent’ happy. Dame Janet says: ‘The producers of the programmes on which Savile worked did not ask him to stop his habit of wet kissing or licking the hands and arms of staff members to whom he was introduced.’
  • She also blames the louche and alcohol-fuelled culture among BBC management staff, writing: ‘Until the late 1980s, managers had drinks cabinets in their rooms…Even early morning coffee might be laced with a spirit.
  • Dame Janet also describes how different BBC radio and television failed to share concerns about Savile due to ‘a sense of superiority among one group over the other’ and loyalty to particularly programmes like Top Of The Pops.

Dame Janet admitted paedophile could still be lurking undiscovered at the BBC – as it was claimed whistleblowing is now worse than ever at the Corporation.

Director general Tony Hall has described Jimmy Savile’s abuse as a ‘dark chapter in the history of the BBC’, adding that Dame Janet Smith’s report ‘will be invaluable in helping us understand what happened and to help ensure that we do everything possible to avoid it happening again’.

In the report, which runs into more than 500 pages, Smith reportedly criticises the Corporation for its ‘untouchable stars’, ‘above the law managers’ and for its ‘very deferential culture’.

She also warns that another predatory child abuser could still be lurking undiscovered at the BBC.

In the conclusion of the lengthy report, the retired judge states: ‘Finally, I wish to consider whether it is possible that a predatory child abuser could be lurking undiscovered in the BBC even today.

‘The answer is that I think it is possible’.

The leaked report, which was due to be published officially within the next six weeks, comes more than four years after Savile was outed as a paedophile who sexually abused more than 500 people.

Many BBC employees told Smith’s ‘review’ they had heard about Savile’s predatory sexual conduct during his time working for the taxpayer-funded Corporation, but feared reporting their concerns.

But Smith accepts a series of denials by senior figures that they were aware of Savile’s sexual misconduct.

In the 37,500-word report, Smith outlines how Savile carried out multiple rapes and indecent assaults on both boys at girls, as well as incidents of ‘inappropriate sexual conduct’ with teenagers who were ‘in some way associated with the BBC’.

She says most of Savile’s abuse crimes took place in his flat or caravans, but admitted that she had heard of incidents occurring in ‘virtually every one of the BBC premises at which he worked’.

This includes the BBC Television Theatre, where Jim’ll Fix It was filmed, the BBC Television Centre, where he worked on Top of the Pops, Broadcasting House, where he worked as a Radio 1 DJ, and various provincial studios including in Leeds, Manchester and Glasgow.

‘He would indulge in sexual touching while working on the set (of Top of the Pops or Jim’ll Fix It) and on at least one occasion, he was actually on camera,’ the report claimed.

‘Savile would seize the opportunity for sexual contact even in public places such as corridors, staircases and canteens.’

Predatory Jimmy Savile, who died in 2011, abused children at every BBC studio he worked in with bosses ignoring his behaviour for years so as not to upset him, the leaked report by Dame Janet Smith claims  The £5million inquiry, led by Dame Janet Smith, was set up in 2012 and was completed in May last year. It has so far only been secretly circulated among BBC bosses, until it was leaked to investigative website Exaro this week

BBC WROTE OFF 15-YEAR-OLD AS A FANTASIST WHEN SHE ACCUSED A TOP OF THE POPS DJ OF ABUSING HER BEFORE SHE KILLED HERSELF

A picture from Top of The Pops in 1971 shows Claire McAlpine, centre, dancing on stage with Jimmy Savile, third from right, only weeks before she died

The BBC was slammed in today’s leaked report after a 15-year-old claimed she was abused by a Top of the Pops DJ – and later killed herself.

Claire McAlpine, was just 15 years old and had been a regular dancer in the audience and told her mother that she was seduced on February 17, 1971, at a time when Savile was abusing at the BBC.

Miss McAlpine’s mother Vera called the BBC ten days later and complained a ‘DJ had invited her back to his flat and seduced her’.

Smith’s report said that BBC management had pre-judged the case believing it was ‘out of character’ for the star – and proposed not taking ‘any further action’.

On the morning of March 29, 1971, Claire, a former convent school pupil, was found lying on the floor of her bedroom at home in Watford, Hertfordshire, by her distraught mother. She had taken a fatal overdose.

Near her body was a bottle of tablets and her red diary. ‘Don’t laugh at me for being dramatic, but I just can’t take it any more,’ Claire wrote.

Today’s leaked draft report said the BBC’s response to an abuse complaint was ‘wholly inadequate’ and lacked ‘any sense of concern’ for Claire or the safety of other girls.

Claire’s diary named a string of radio disc jockeys — and other showbusiness personalities, all household names — who, she claimed, had ‘used’ her.

One of the DJs, she said, had taken her to his house for the night and given her a pill which made her feel like she was ‘floating on a cloud’. Another had also invited her back to his ‘sumptuously furnished’ residence.

Savile, then in his 40s, who presented Top Of The Pops, was asked during an interview that year with the News of the World if he knew or remembered Claire from the show.

‘I studied a photograph of Claire very closely,’ he replied. ‘I cannot recollect ever seeing the girl in my life. They say she came from Watford. I don’t know anyone who lives in Watford.’

The inquest into Claire’s death was held shortly after the article appeared. The coroner ruled that Claire committed suicide after deciding her ‘day-dreams’ of becoming a pop star would never come true.

Jenni Bale knew Claire. She was 22 and also a dancer on Top Of The Pops and said previously one of the DJs who abused Claire was Jimmy Savile, who ‘bluffed his way out of it’.

‘Claire’s diary entries were later described as fantasy by the police, a terrible slur against someone who couldn’t defend herself,’ said Jenni.

‘I believe Claire lost her life all those years ago because of what was done to her. She would probably be a mother herself now.’

  • Top of the Pops photographer in the 1960s and 1970s Harry Goodwin probably took pornographic photos of audience members and showed ‘blue films’ backstage, the inquiry found – but no action was taken

However, while some members of staff at the BBC were supposedly aware of Savile’s behaviour, they reportedly were too afraid to report the issues for fear of losing their jobs or not being taken seriously.

According to Smith, some aspects of BBC culture during the 1970s and 1980s made it ‘difficult for such young women to complain about anything, and about sexual misconduct or harassment in particular’.

She highlighted cases where complainants had reported concerns about the disgraced DJ’s behaviour, only to be told that making an official complaint ‘would not be making the right decision’.

Concluding, Smith said: ‘During the Savile years, the culture in the BBC and the BBC’s management style did not encourage the reporting of complaints or concerns.

‘Given the hierarchical structure, the impracticability of complaining to anyone other than a line manager and the weakness of the personnel department, the only option for a victim of inappropriate behaviour during the Savile years was to put up with it or leave’.

The report claims most of Savile's rapes and sex abuse crimes took place in his flat or caravans, but that there had been reports of incidents occurring in 'every one of the BBC premises at which he worked'

Smith also outlined claims of the BBC’s management culture being ‘very deferential’

‘My general impression is that most staff (other than those who had been in the higher echelons) felt that the management culture was too deferential and that some executives were ‘above the law’,’ she writes in the draft report.

‘I have the clear impression that most people in the BBC held the talent in some awe and treated them deferentially; they appeared to have the ability to influence careers and were themselves untouchable. It would be a brave person indeed who would make a complaint against such a person.’

Other disturbing disclosures from the inquiry report include that the honours committee advised Lady Thatcher, as prime minister, against recommending a knighthood for Savile because of public warning signs about the presenter.

Smith began conducting a review into how Savile was able to carry out sexual abuse of children and adults while at BBC since it was revealed – following his death in October 2011 – that he was a paedophile.

Sources have previously said that the long-delayed independent report ‘tears the BBC apart’ and is ‘much worse than expected’.

In particular, it is said to show that abuse on the Corporation’s premises was far more widespread than previously feared during the period Savile worked there.

BBC chiefs are braced for severe criticism over its failure to act on rumours of Savile’s behaviour towards children and young people.

Publication of the report has been postponed several times, most recently at the request of the Metropolitan Police, owing to ‘on-going’ sexual abuse investigations.

The £5million inquiry, led by Smith, was set up in 2012 and completed in May last year. It reportedly has so far only been circulated among BBC bosses, until it was leaked to investigative website Exaro this week.

The review team was set up by the BBC to carry out ‘an impartial, thorough and independent review of the culture and practices of the BBC during the years that Jimmy Savile worked there’.

After paedophile Stuart Hall pleaded guilty in 2013 to 14 charges of indecent assault, the BBC announced another inquiry, led by Dame Linda Dobbs, the former High Court judge.

The scandal of child sex abuse by both Savile and Hall has rocked the broadcaster in recent years.

The BBC declined to comment on the leaked report when contacted by MailOnline, adding: ‘The BBC hasn’t seen Dame Janet’s report or any draft copy.’

‘Drunk’ BBC bosses treated Jimmy Savile with ‘kid gloves’ and left his victims too scared to complain because of the ‘adulation’ afforded to celebrities

The BBC’s management culture during the Jimmy Savile days was ‘alcohol-fuelled’ with bosses drinking heavily and treating celebrities with ‘kid gloves’, an explosive leaked report revealed today.

The draft report, by Dame Janet Smith, has claimed former BBC chiefs adopted a louche management style and made booze-fuelled decisions at the licence-fee payers’ expense.

The culture made it difficult for more junior employees to report issues or offences such as sexual abuse, even when they were victims themselves.

In the report, seen by investigative website Exaro, Smith writes: ‘The first reason why this would be so was because of the deference or even adulation which was, and still is, accorded to celebrity in our society.

The BBC's management culture during the Jimmy Savile days was 'alcohol-fuelled' with bosses drinking heavily and treating celebrities with 'kid gloves', an explosive draft report by Dame Janet Smith has revealed

‘The second reason was because of the attitude within the BBC towards the ‘talent’. The general perception of the witnesses I heard was that the talent was treated with kid gloves and never challenged.’

She highlighted one comment by Peter Scott-Morgan, who worked as a consultant for the BBC in 2003 and was tasked with determining what the unwritten rules of behaviour were at the Corporation.

Smith said: ‘Dr Scott-Morgan used an expression that I think encapsulated the general attitude towards the talent. He said that they were ‘more valuable than the values’.
The report documents the allleged booze-fuelled culture of BBC management during Savile’s days
The report documents the allleged booze-fuelled culture of BBC management during Savile's days

By this, he meant that a member of the talent could be so influential in the BBC or so important to the success of a programme that he or she could get away with conduct that flew in the face of the values of the BBC.
‘Managers would not challenge them.’
She added: ‘It was important to keep the star of the show happy.
‘The producers of the programmes on which Savile worked did not ask him to stop his habit of wet kissing or licking the hands and arms of staff members to whom he was introduced.
‘I am sure they would not have wished to upset the star of the show.’
Touching on the alcohol-fuelled culture of the management staff which once was prevelant at the BBC, she said: ‘Until the late 1980s, managers had drinks cabinets in their rooms. The cabinets were replenished at public expense.
‘Many informal meetings would be conducted with the aid of alcohol. Even early morning coffee might be laced with a spirit.
‘I heard accounts of executives and managers being the worse for wear in the afternoons.’
The report also highlighted a witness account from a researcher on Jim’ll Fix It between 1987 and 1989.
In an interview for the Smith report, the researcher told how he went for a meeting about a possible promotion with a head of department and a senior producer and found them ‘both lying on sofas with their shoes and socks off, watching the television’.
‘He painted a picture of two powerful individuals who felt that they could behave as they liked and did not show any respect to those more junior’, Smith wrote in the report.

Leaked report into Jimmy Savile sex abuse: incidents took place in Glasgow

09:04 Thursday 21 January 2016 / Home News

A leaked draft of a report into sexual abuse by broadcaster Jimmy Savile states that incidents took place in Glasgow.

The draft report, produced during an official review of Savile’s time at the BBC by retired judge Dame Janet Smith, outlines the extent of Savile’s sexual activities, which it said “took place in virtually every one of the BBC premises at which he worked.”

The locations included BBC properties in Leeds, Manchester and Glasgow, the BBC Television Theatre, while on set for Jim’ll Fix It, Television Centre in connection with Top of the Pops, and Broadcasting House, where he worked for Radio 1.
Incidents also took place at the Lime Grove studios in London.

Dame Janet states: “He would indulge in sexual touching while working on the set (of Top Of The Pops or Jim’ll Fix It) and on at least one occasion, he was actually on camera.

“Savile would seize the opportunity for sexual contact even in public places such as corridors, staircases and canteens.”

The draft report condemns the BBC for having a “deferential culture” and “untouchable stars”, and criticises the corporation for having managers who were “above the law”.

Rapes, indecent assaults on both boys and girls, and incidents of “inappropriate sexual conduct” with teenagers over 16 were all “in some way associated with the BBC”, the draft report states. Three of Savile’s victims were only nine, it adds.

Incidents occurred at “virtually every one of the BBC premises” in which Savile worked, the report said, and more than 100 employees at the corporation told the review they had heard about Savile’s sexual conduct.

While staff said they were aware of his behaviour, they were scared to report it to managers, the draft report, published by news website Exaro states .

But Dame Janet accepted denials from senior bosses that they were aware of his sexual activity, according to the leaked document.
And she does not criticise the BBC for not uncovering the abuse, according to the report.

Liz Dux, a specialist abuse lawyer at Slater and Gordon, which represents 168 alleged Savile victims – many of whom where assaulted at the BBC – said: “It is deeply disturbing that this inquiry appears to have concluded the same culture which allowed Savile to commit his appalling offences with impunity still persists today.

“That little has been done at the BBC to prevent another predatory abuser using their celebrity and influence to target the young and vulnerable is of grave concern.

“I find it incredible that 107 people gave evidence to having heard rumours of his depravity and inappropriate sexual behaviour yet no one in a position of authority seemed to be aware.

“Now, more than ever before, mandatory reporting legislation needs to be brought in to make it a crime to turn a blind eye to this sort of offending.

“It also has to be said that Savile’s victims who gave evidence to this inquiry will find it upsetting that a report of this nature and sensitivity has been leaked in this way.”

A statement on the Dame Janet’s review website expressed disappointment at the leak of the draft but said it was out of date.

According to Exaro, Dame Janet says in the report: “My general impression is that most staff (other than those who had been in the higher echelons) felt that the management culture was too deferential and and that some executives were ‘above the law’.”

The BBC’s “talent” was held in “awe” by most staff, who treated them “deferentially”, she said, adding: “It would be a brave person indeed who would make a complaint against such a person.”

Commenting on the leak, a statement on the Dame Janet Smith Review website said: “The Review is disappointed by the decision of Exaro to publish, in breach of confidence, extracts from a leaked copy of an early draft of its Report.

“That document is out of date and significant changes have been made to its contents and conclusions.

“The document should not have been made public and cannot be relied upon in any circumstances.

“The Review will work with the BBC to arrange publication of its final Report as quickly as possible to ensure that accurate and responsible reporting can take place.”

The leaked draft was published a day after the review announced that the long-delayed final report would be published within six weeks.

It said this was because “the Review has been informed by the Metropolitan Police that it is no longer concerned that publication of the Report could prejudice its ongoing investigations”.

It said final checks were being carried out ahead of delivery to the BBC and publication.

Drafts of the report will have been seen by numerous parties involved in the review.
