  • A man and a woman have been arrested after riot police were brought in to end a stand-off at a block of flats in Inverness.

Onlookers claimed a man had barricaded himself inside the property, in in the Dalneigh area of the city, for several hours on Monday.

Police sealed off the area before officers in riot gear initially detained five people.

A 34-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man will appear in court later.

REPORTS suggest a man has barricaded himself inside a residential property.

POLICE  are dealing with a “hostage situation” at a residential property in Inverness.

Several police vehicles were called to the Darnleigh area at around 8pm, where officers taped off properties on .

Police wearing riot gear stormed a property on the street at around 10pm as crowds of people gathered to watch.

There were reports from onlookers that a man had barricaded himself inside after throwing objects, including glass bottles, at officers. Police won’t confirm the nature of the incident or provide any details, only saying there is an “ongoing incident”.

Richard Laird, councillor for Inverness Central, said on Twitter he understood there had been a “hostage situation”.

Police are still at the scene several hours later. 


 Six-hour siege: Man and woman arrested after stand-off with riot police

A man and a woman have been arrested following a six-hour stand-off with police in Inverness.

A crowd of residents gathered as officers in full riot gear entered the property in the city’s area.

The woman, 35, is expected to appear in court on Tuesday and the man, 31, will do so on Wednesday. Five people were initially taken into custody.

After a large smashing sound just after police broke inside, onlookers saw a man appearing at a balcony as the dramatic events unfolded.

Local residents said that at various points during the night, the same man shouted from the balcony at police.

He also threw objects, including glass bottles, towards police outside.

Officers wearing helmets and shoulder pads and holding riot shields stood guard along with three riot vans.

A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed inquiries are ongoing and thanked the public for their patience and support during the incident.

Officers were called to the scene of the incident in on Monday afternoon.

Police closed streets around a block of flats before storming the building with riot shields.

Five people were initially detained in connection with the disturbance, before a man and a woman were arrested by police.

A 34-year-old woman is expected to appear in Inverness Sheriff Court on Tuesday over the stand-off, while a 31-year-old man will appear in the court on Wednesday.

Police Scotland said several officers attended the disturbance, as well as personnel from the Scottish Fire and Rescue and Ambulance Service. The force said roads were closed around Bruce Gardens for approximately six hours during the stand-off. SOURCE

But the light, its mid summer. NO CHANCE it was that dark at 10pm. My kids were out playing in broad daylight at 9.30pm!
