Convicted paedophile Antony Hunter is on the run

Paedophile on the run after judge made ‘mistake’ giving him bail

A paedophile is on the run after a court made a ‘mistake’ giving him bail.

Antony Hunter was meant to be sentenced at Dunfermline Sheriff Court, in Scotland, on Wednesday.

The 35-year-old was facing a jail term after confessing to downloading more than 300 illegal images of children, according to the Daily Record.

But he didn’t show up, sparking a manhunt to track him down.

Hunter, who admitted to authorities he was attracted to young girls, was staying in Rosyth, Fife, with his mother when he accessed the photos.

The paedophile was previously imprisoned after he had sex with a 15-year-old girl in 2011.

He failed to show up at Dunfermline Sheriff Court

He also breached a court order and sexual Offences Prevention order (SOPO) when he failed to tell police he had moved to Fife and had unsupervised interactions with two girls under the age of ten.

Dunfermline sheriff Charles Macnair said he regretted his decision to allow bail, calling it ‘a mistake’.

His choice was also criticised by Tory MSP Douglas Ross.

He added: ‘If the courts continue to treat such individuals with kid gloves, it risks putting people off reporting these crimes in the first place.’
