Hospitalised Ukip MEP Steven Woolfe simply ‘fell over his own feet’, Mike Hookem says

The Ukip MEP hospitalised after an altercation in the European Parliament was injured after he “fell over his own feet”, the other MEP involved in the altercation said.

Mike Hookem said Steven Woolfe “came at me” after having taken his jacket off and beckoned him outside a room they were having a meeting in.

He said the pair went outside expecting a fight but that in the end there was no pushing or punching involved in a “two or three second tussle”.

“Steven Woolfe came at me, it was a tussle, it lasted two or three seconds before other MEP colleagues came into the ante-room,” he told Channel 4 News. “I’d backed off, the door opened, Steven Woolfe somehow fell over his own feet and fell into the room, and that was basically it.”

Asked for more details on how Mr Woolfe fell over Mr Hookem said “I have no idea”.

“More importantly I did not punch Steven Woolfe,” he added, also clarifying that “there was no violence” during the tussle.

Mr Hookem also explained that he left the same meeting early and immediately flew back to the UK from Strasbourg for reasons completely unrelated to the altercation.

“The day before one of my assistants was taken very ill, she was in hospital, I was told by the doctor that she had to be taken home and she had to be accompanied on the aircraft, I had to change all of my travel plans, and I accompanied her, I had to go pick her up from the hospital. So I left that meeting early, at 10.30, to go pick this lady up, to take her back to her parents. I accompanied her back from the aircraft. At about 3 o’clock in the afternoon I got a text saying Steven had collapsed. That’s all I knew.”

Mr Woolfe is the favourite for next Ukip leader, Mr Hookem is the party’s defence spokesperson. They are both members of the European Parliament.

Mr Woolfe was rushed to hospital with suspected bleeding on the brain after he later collapsed but he is now apparently making a recovery. SOURCE

I’m gonna go out on a limb here & suggest this story may infact be a HEAP OF SHITE!

 Where do I start?

  1. Jacket oh so conveniently covering face
  2. Who folded his jacket like that. GOOD JOB
  3. Just look at way his body is positioned! Very realistic!!
  4. HE WAS PUNCHED. HOW THE FUK IS HE LYING FACE DOWN?!
  5. The alleged perp’s name is Mike HOOKEM. What?!! 😂😂😂 Are we seriously meant to believe that Mike HOOKEM right HOOKEDHIM? GTF! 😂😂
  6. Apparently he had “TWO epileptic-like fits” REALLY? Cause he DOES NOT look like he has had a fit. His clothes are not crumpled nor ridden up anywhere or anything!
  7. “banged his head on a metal bar after being punched” Ok.. so i am assuming he must have stepped back & pirouetted for him to land on his front like that?!

The UK Independence Party MEP involved in an “altercation” with leadership favourite Steven Woolfe has denied he punched him

He said the pair had instead wrestled like a “pair of tarts”.

Mike Hookem, Ukip’s defence spokesman, blamed Mr Woolfe for starting the incident during a meeting to discuss Mr Woolfe’s admission that he had considered defecting to the Conservatives in recent months.

Speaking for the first time since the incident, Mr Hookem told The Daily Telegraph:

“I never saw him hit his head on anything in that room.”

Steven Woolfe had two 'epileptic-like fits' and complained of numbness on his left side, before collapsing

Mr Hookem said that Mr Woolfe started the altercation.

He said: “I was not the instigator, I did not instigate this tussle. It was not me.”

Mr Woolfe has extended the “hand of friendship” to the fellow MEP after a clash which left him hospitalised and will spend another 48 hours in hospital.

On Thursday night Mr Woolfe claimed that Mr Hookem “came at me and landed a blow”, as the party launched an investigation into the incident.

But Mr Hookem told the Telegraph: “I went out there, I was asked to go out there by him, mano y mano. It was not me who instigated it. I am not the aggressor.”

He said he was not a violent man, adding:

“I am 63 year old portly grandfather. I do not go rolling about the floor with people at my time of life. When you are on the floor the problem for me is getting up again.  My hands were never round anyone’s neck – it was the pair of us hugging each other like a pair of tarts.”

He said he had received an email from Mr Woolfe this morning

“saying ‘he regretted  it, he wants to peace up and put things right’. I replied to him ‘yes that is a great idea’. As for the fit or whatever he has had I can strongly say ‘that was not by my hand, it had nothing to do with me’.” READ IN FULL

Mr Woolfe, the favourite to take over from Nigel Farage, is now “sitting up and well” as he recovers having suffered two “epileptic-like fits” after collapsing following the incident at the European Parliament.

The MEP released a statement saying he was “feeling brighter, happier, and smiling as ever” and does not have a blood clot on his brain as had been feared earlier today. He was treated by paramedics after the incident in Strasbourg, where it is understood he banged his head on a metal bar after being punched.

The 49-year-old is being kept in hospital overnight as a precaution, after it was confirmed he lost consciousness and felt “numbness on the left hand side of his body”. The altercation took place after a “clear the air meeting” with his fellow Ukip MEPs in Strasbourg, who were unhappy about his admission he considered defecting to the Conservatives. Sources say he was confronted by the party’s defence spokesman Mike Hookem, a 62-year-old former Royal Marines Commando.

Mr Woolfe, who is celebrating his birthday today, reportedly went to vote but then felt unwell and collapsed. Mr Hookem could not be contacted for most of today, but a spokesman for him denied that he had landed the blow.

“Mike did not touch him,” she said. READ IN FULL
