She’s battled family drama, crippling debt and a serious drug addiction, but now Danniella Westbrook has revealed that her troubles began before she even hit her teenage years.

In a candid therapy session, the EastEnders actress, 42, has told how she was sexually abused from the age of seven – in an ordeal that left her feeling emotionally disconnected from sex.

The former child star appears on Channel 5 show Danniella Westbrook: In Therapy, which airs next week, where she also discusses the £1,000-a-week cocaine habit that blighted much of her twenties.

‘I was sexually abused as a child,’ Danniella reveals as she breaks down in front of therapist Mandy Saligari. ‘I was seven years old, [it was] within the workplace and that continued for a lot of my life. 

‘At seven I was like a 14-year-old. There were certain things going on with me that shouldn’t have been… I was betrayed by lots of people.’

She adds: ‘For me I’ve been the keeper of people’ secrets for a long time and I don’t want to do that any more. I tried to talk to people about it then – I still had to go to work and do things.’

Closer magazine also reports that the mother-of-two now feels she has ‘no connection’ with sex, saying: ‘Sex doesn’t mean anything to me… I feel absolutely nothing.’

Danniella also speaks of the devastating drug habit that saw her septum collapse due to prolonged cocaine abuse, admitting at despite the unflattering pictures that were circulating at the time, she couldn’t have cared less because she ‘wanted to die’.

After recovering from her drug addiction and managing to stay clean for 12 years, she famously had a relapse last year following a messy break-up with her fiancé.

However appearing on This Morning last summer, she insisted: ‘Don’t be worried about me, I am not fragile. I’m sick of being talked about as a drug addict and this, that and the other.’ 

She had been off drugs for more than a decade but turned to them again thanks to a turbulent relationship with 26-year-old cage fighter Tom Richards.

She admitted it was difficult having to deal with her problems in the media spotlight, especially as she has met people who have sold stories about her for their own financial gain.

Danniella said: ‘Myself and my kids have been through a tough time with my ex partner… I have made a lot of mistakes. I relapsed because I wanted to after I was clean for 13 years. We all battle with our demons but mine are in the public eye.’ 

After a busy few months which saw her return to to soap that first thrust her into the spotlight at 16 – EastEnders – Danniella has recently been spotted enjoying a sun-kissed holiday with her boyfriend George Arnold, 24, in Gran Canaria.

She is due to reprise her role of Sam Mitchell when she returns to Albert Square next week.
