During the course of this blog & throughout my research over the past couple of years, I have come across countless children in the UK that have been run over by ice cream vans & several have been killed! Speaking as a mum of five, my personal advice to any parent…
GO WITH YOUR CHILD TO THE ICE CREAM VAN!!
Savile & Jaconelli
1. FRED WEST
In September 1962, the 21-year-old West became re-acquainted with a former girlfriend, Catherine Costello, who was now better known as Rena from her time working as a prostitute. Costello was already pregnant by another man, and she and West married on 17 November before moving to Coatbridge, Lanarkshire. Her daughter, Charmaine Carol, was born on 22 February 1963. Costello and West claimed they had adopted Charmaine, whose father was a Pakistani bus driver. In July 1964, Costello bore West a daughter named Anne Marie. During this period in Coatbridge, West worked as an ice cream van driver. On 4 November 1965, he ran over and killed a four-year-old boy with his van.
The family, along with Isa McNeill, who looked after the couple’s children, and Costello’s friend Anne McFall, moved into the Lakeside Caravan Park in Bishop’s Cleeve, Gloucestershire, at the end of 1965 when West feared he might suffer reprisal attacks if he stayed in Coatbridge due to the ice cream van accident. To escape from West’s sadistic sexual demands, Costello and McNeill moved to Scotland in 1966.
2. Paedophile ice cream van man Billy McGill jailed 9 December 2013
A sex predator who used his ice cream van to lure young boys in West Lothian and Lanarkshire before abusing them has been jailed for seven years.
A judge told Billy McGill, 51, the offences during his 24 years of depravity had been carefully planned. He was convicted of a total of eight charges of indecency, indecent assault attempted sodomy and sodomy dating back to 1988. His five victims were between nine and 14 years old.
Earlier at the High Court in Edinburgh, judge Lady Scott told McGill: “The nature of these offences and the degree of planning and the gross breach of trust involved suggests you pose a serious risk to boys and young men.”
Sex offenders’ register
McGill, from Longridge, West Lothian, had denied the offences, claiming he was the victim of an internet smear by a rival ice cream seller.
His trial heard how police ordered accusers to stop posting messages about him on social networking site Facebook and warned McGill for his safety, but weeks later arrested him.
Defence QC Mark Stewart said McGill had learning difficulties and depression and had contemplated suicide since the guilty verdicts.
The trial heard how school children who came to work for the family ice cream business were encouraged to sleep over at his caravan near Climpy Road, Forth, Lanarkshire, where he parked his ice cream van. He also operated from an industrial estate at Addiewell, in West Lothian, and had a caravan there. SOURCE
A FORMER Cwmbran icecream man who abused a boy in the 1970s has been jailed for 20 months.
Leonard Bristow, 75, currently of Edgware, Middlesex, but formerly of Cwmbran, admitted eight out of 17 specimen counts of indecent assault against a child, dating from 1977 to 1980, at a hearing on January 29 this year.
Bristow touched and systematically abused the boy, said John Warren, prosecuting at Cardiff Crown Court yesterday.
In a statement, the victim, who reported the offences to police in August 2011, said it had a profound effect on his life, and he could no longer sleep without the radio on as the offences were committed while the defendant listened to Radio Luxembourg.
“I felt it was my fault, I felt dirty and embarrassed,” he said.
“The incidents have always been in my mind and have stuck with me. It is sometimes on the TV and it brings everything to my mind.
“It ruined my life,” he said.
Police tracked down Bristow and he was interviewed on February 8, 2012, said Mr Warren, in which he initially denied the offences.
The court heard Bristow was convicted in 1990 of indecently assaulting another boy in his van, for which he was fined £200. SOURCE
4. Child sex pervert a suspect in ice cream shooting Friday 15 December 2006
A CONVICTED paedophile is among the chief suspects in the shooting of ice cream man Jim Allison.
David King, 47, was forced to flee his home in Penicuik nine years ago after Mr Allison told the local community about his murky past. Detectives raided Mr King’s home on Monday to search for the shotgun used in the attack before questioning him for six hours at Dalkeith police station.
A police source confirmed that he was among the three suspects investigators have quizzed over the shooting.
Mr King was released without charge but remains under suspicion.
But he confirmed that he did hold a long-running grudge against Mr Allison, who was shot in the stomach at close range as he served sweets to children from his van in Strathesk Road last Monday at 6.30pm.
Married father-of-two Mr King was convicted of an indecent assault on a 12-year-old girl in a Penicuik house in November 1996.
Mr King said: “Jim Allison went and told the papers I was a paedophile 12 years ago, so the police think I have a grudge against him. The cops smashed up my house, they went through everything. They even went through my granddaughter’s teddies and the fish tank.”
He said that police raided his house on Monday and took away items including his car and clothes, before bringing him in for questioning. A police spokeswoman said it would be “inappropriate” to comment and their inquiries remained ongoing.
Mr King also claims that his disabled wife and 18-year-old son, who has special needs, were interviewed by detectives.
One theory, that a feud arose between Mr Allison and a local family following an assault on his son about a month ago, which later saw two men aged 22 and 21 charged, is still being examined.
Police are checking for any disputes Mr Allison may have had with neighbours and are still investigating possible links to his rape conviction from 36 years ago.
Mr Allison – known locally as “Flash” – served 12 years for rape after being sentenced in 1970. READ IN FULL
5. STEPHEN WRIGHT August 2012
Man tells cops sick paedo Wright assaulted him when he was 14 after Sunday World exposes sordid past
A Convicted PAEDOPHILE ice cream man is being investigated by gardai after a serious sex allegation was made against him, following an exposé in last week’s Sunday World.
A man has come forward claiming he was groomed for abuse by convicted sex offender Stephen Wright. The abuse is alleged to have centred on Wright’s ‘Mr Greedy’ ice cream van, which he drove around the streets of inner-city Dublin for more than 10 years until last weekend.
The child sex offender is believed to have quit the trade within hours of our revelations. These exclusive pictures show one of his ice cream vans being taken to the scrapyard after Wright crashed it into a wall to prove that he was leaving the business. The wicked pervert begged us not to expose his sordid past and offered to allow himself to be monitored by gardai if we kept him out of the paper.
Carol Clarke, a former tutor labelled a ”predatory paedophile” by detectives, has been given an indeterminate prison sentence after she admitted sexually abusing young children.
Clarke, 46, assaulted children she followed into toilets in Grimsby and other parts of Lincolnshire, she told detectives.
Carol Clarke will serve a minimum of four years
Grimsby Crown Court heard she was sexually aroused by watching young children urinate and from seeing them looking distressed when they needed to go to the toilet.
Sentencing Clarke, Judge David Tremberg told her she would have to serve a minimum of four year in prison.
Judge Tremberg told Clarke, of Cromwell Road, Grimsby, Lincolnshire, she would only be released from prison once parole board members were satisfied she no longer posed a risk to young children or the public. He told Clarke, who sat motionless while being sentenced:
“This is a sad and deeply troubling case. From the time you were a very young woman you have had and maintained a very worrying sexual preference, in particular young girls when they are urinating and when they are distressed.”
He told Clarke, who won a place at Cambridge University after she had completed her sixth form exams, she was “clearly an intelligent woman” and could have endeavoured not to indulge her interest in children.
At an earlier hearing Clarke admitted abusing young boys and girls, with some of her offences dating back to before 1992..
He told the court Clarke had confessed over a period of two decades, to various health care professionals, to offences she committed on children ranging from as high as 100 to as low as 10.
Mr Stables said it was difficult to distinguish between fact and fiction but that the Crown believed Clarke had committed dozens of offences.
He told the court Clarke had taken a job in an ice-cream van in order to try to get close to children, and had used events organised by her church to come into contact with youngsters. SOURCE
“I have formed the distinct impression that you have organised and conducted your whole life in order to gain access to children and to perpetrate sexual abuse – working in a boys hostel, then a children’s home; running an ice cream van; employing children in your shop; hunting down children hanging about the streets in your locality and drawing them into your house with the supply of free drink and cigarettes. You appear to have seized every conceivable opportunity to abuse a child.”
8. Paedophile Robert Gill guilty of charges spanning 20 years Feb 11, 2016
A PAEDOPHILE has been found guilty of grooming young boys with free ice–creams and raping teenagers after getting them high on cannabis. Robert Gill denied child sex abuse charges spanning more than two decades, including the rape of two boys,
Former Scarborough Mayor Peter Jaconelli
The series of articles we have run on Jimmy Savile has identified that Savile appears to have operated in Scarborough and Whitby in a paedophile-ring comprising himself, Mr Peter Jaconelli (Councillor and a Mayor of Scarborough, local business man who owned a string of ice cream parlours in Scarborough and along with Savile visited Whitby,) and Mr Jimmy Corrigan (local businessman who owned arcades in Scarborough).
Access to all of the information we have gathered can be obtained here:
Savile and Corrigan were members of the same marathon-running club, based in Scarborough, which also included Mr Alan Franey – a member of the Leeds General Infirmary NHS Management Team where Savile was a volunteer and was given free access to patients, thus allowing him to abuse them at will.
According to local Scarborough and Whitby sources:
- Jaconelli was well known locally to be a paedophile and had several brushes with the law. He came to the attention of the authorities in about 1960 over an incident in the Judo club he ran between 1955 and 1960 which had children as members and which was closed down as a result.
- Corrigan was arrested and cautioned for an incident in the lavatories on Scarborough sea front.
SATANISM AND SADISM AT STOKE MANDEVILLE AND WHITBY
Savile, Jaconelli and others were involved in satanism and used a house in Whitby which had a room known as “the rituals or functions room”, or “the chamber”, equipped with a whipping-post, black candles and a painted pentagram.
The national press also confirmed the allegations, first made by “Corruption Busters”, that Savile was involved in sexual offences connected with Satanism and sadism. The description of the room used for one of these sessions in Stoke Mandevile Hospital in the article is very similar to the description of the room in Whitby used by Savile and Jaconelli, given to Nigel Ward by local witnesses. Police made ‘no real attempt’ to investigate alleged attack on ‘flasher’ Taylor Mitendele, Teesside Crown Court is told
Giving evidence in court, Mitendele said he had visited the park on April 6 to “enjoy the sun” and was eating an ice cream from a pack of four when he was approached by the group of boys.
He moved on to another area, but they had followed him, he said.
He said they had spun him around on some play equipment and fired peashooters at him but nothing untoward had occurred.
Mr Abrahams said a man sitting in a park alone with a box of ice creams could fit the “stereotype of a paedophile. Apart from the fact he didn’t come equipped with a puppy he would pretty much match that stereotype,” READ IN FULL
A former Dumfries police officer who now owns a popular ice cream shop was arrested on charges he sexually abused a young boy between 1996 and 2001.

12. Ice cream van pervert MARTIN LOYNES jailed 13 Sept 2005
A former ice cream seller who sexually abused victims in his van has been jailed for 12 years.
Martin Loynes, 55, of Denbury Mount, Holme Wood, denied 20 sex offences but was found guilty by a jury.
Loynes was convicted of raping a girl of 12, two assaults on a boy and was also found guilty of 17 indecency offences, some dating to the 1960s.
Sentencing him on Tuesday, Judge Rodger Scott said he had incited the children to act as “lovers”.
Bradford Crown Court was told during his five-day trial in July that offences against one child had started in 1964 and continued for a 10-year period.
The boy and girl, who cannot be named, had on occasions, been assaulted in the ice cream van.
“They were made to act as lovers by you at a very early age. It was all down to you,” said the judge. READ IN FULL
Lord Janner appeared in court for less than a minute this afternoon… before going home with his daughter for ice cream.
Following weeks of legal wrangling and failing to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court this morning Janner appeared to answer 22 counts of historic child sex abuse.
His legal team had argued Janner was not fit to appear due to his dementia.
However, Judge Emma Arbuthnot threatened to issue a warrant for his arrest if he did not attend by 2pm this afternoon. READ IN FULL
A DEVASTATED victim wept yesterday after the man who abused him and his brother when they were young boys was jailed.
Alexander Biagi, 62, was locked up for two-and-a-half years for the systematic abuse of Ian and Derrick Brown.
They worked on his ice cream van rounds in Holytown and New Stevenson, Lanarkshire, at weekends and evenings after school from 1975.
The pervert carried out the abuse over the next six years, leaving the victims struggling to come to terms with the assaults. The abuse only came to light last year when Derrick, now 37, was left disabled in car accident in Canada. He confided in his girlfriend as he lay recovering in hospital.
Yesterday at Hamilton Sheriff Court, Ian shouted “yes” as Sheriff Hugh Neilson jailed Biagi and placed him on the sex offenders register.
As he left court wiping away tears Ian, now 33, said: “Finally we have justice. It is not long enough but it will do.”
Second victim Derrick was not in court.
Children’s groups last night described the sentence as too lenient and warned Biagi could be back on the streets in little more than a year. SOURCE
NOT PAEDO (that I know of) but certainly NOT GOOD either
Paedo Signs & Logos
“boylovers” make their presence known with a “small blue spiral-shaped triangle surrounded by a larger triangle”? The larger triangle signifies an adult male; the smaller triangle, a boy. If the boylover wishes to emphasize the smallness of the boys he covets, then he uses the “little boy lover” logo, which is more rounded and thinner than the boylover logo, apparently to “resemble a scribbling by a young child.” Males or females whose taste runs to young girls identify themselves with a logo showing one heart inside a larger heart, while “non-preferential gender child abusers” indicate their enthusiasms with a butterfly logo made up of two large hearts and two smaller hearts. These logos are sometimes incorporated into jewelry or even stamped onto coins.
